Looks like Hill got lucky this year with the draw for the brackets now they might make it out of the first round unlike last year

South is dangerous right now...11-2 or something like that in their last 13....rolled through their section outscoring the opp 20-0....Their Goalie, Yumusaklar is the best around, and now he and the cougars to get perform on teh big stage

Hill, and Phillippi buckle under pressure....

This game has UPSET written all over it

MHF, they've won by beating teams they should beat. They don't, however, have much in the way of quality wins. I think Rosemount is as good as it gets.

I'm going Hill.

I think these teams played in the opening round of the 2002 tournament (when Lakeville was still one school) and I recall Hill squeaking one out 3-2 in overtime when everyone thought they would advance easily. If Hill comes ready to play next week they should be fine but hopefully they understand there are no easy games left. We all saw in last year's tournament that just because you're a top 4 seed doesn't mean you'll advance. I think Hill will learn from that, raise the intensity level a notch and play a solid game next Thursday.

Wow this could get ugly real quick. Like running time in the first period.

Hill: 8
Lakeville South: Won't

If H-M uses their speed for three periods as they did against White Bear, they are going to be just fine. It will be a matter of showing up at the drop of the puck and slamming home shots against Lakeville's goalie.

Pioneers 4, Lakeville 1

if i was from hill i would come ready to play. lakeville plays a in your face physical kind of hockey team and if your not ready you could find yourself down a couple early. also, with yumusaklar playing the way he is you do not want to be losing to this team.

Two words for my fellow Pioneers...Rochester Century. Last year you were expected to win the first round game against the Section 1AA representative. Most consider this section to be one of (if not the) worst section in the state. Things didn't work out as planned last year.

Having said that, you are an experienced team with a lot of talent. When you skate, you succeed. Lakeville So. earned their place in this tourney and obviously have a solid team. Take them lightly & you will be playing at Marriuci. Stay focused, play your game, and you will be playing in the State Semis on a magical night.

Once again, congrats on reaching the State Tournament. The Pioneer Faithful are wishing you well & hope you have the time of your life. Good luck!

All Pioneers should wait until college to play at Mariucci. Most of the time Hill DOESN'T PLAY when at Mariucci. Some of us can't even spell Mariucci. However, Section 1 was lucky last year that Lex benched some top players for lack of back checking.

Hill-Murray played a more defensive style last night that will serve them well if they continue it next week. Their forwards got back, back checked and stayed in the defensive zone. They had few turnovers in front of Phillippi. He's very good when he can see the puck and play coming at him. WBL had almost no odd man rushes. He was helpless on a few of Mahtomedi's 4 goals ( a 5-4 win when being outshot ) 2 weeks ago because of poor defensive play, turnovers and forwards headed up ice all of the time. I hope they keep it up. It is their only hope if they meet Edina or Roseau next week. There is nothing wrong with winning 2-1.

I don't think Hill got lucky at all. They drew a team that on paper it looks like they should blow out but South is playing very well right now and their goalie (Yumusaklar) looks like he could steal a game from anyone right now as he shut out the entire sectional playoffs. I think this puts all the pressure on Hill and like stated earlier...I smell upset

South-3
Hill-2

Public schools prevail...

though it would be nice to see them reach 200 goals on the season.

Lakeville South is definately no Rochester Century, Century acutally had a pretty good team last year and deserved to be in the tourney.

How was that by beating an 8-16-2 Lakeville No. team or Owatonna?

South doesn't have any offense, do they? That be their stigma.

Hill has struggled in the 1st round in recent years

2006
Hill-Murray: 5
Minnetonka: 4
Minnetonka lost 9 games in the regular season and no one gave them any chance against 1 loss Hill but they dang near beat them.

2007
Century: 6
Hill-Murray: 5 o.t
Phillipi plays bad and the pioneers fork over a 1 goal lead in final minnuets and then lose in O.T off a weak goal by Joe Faupel

I think this year could be the same, Hill is once again coming in over confident and I think this game has the word UPSET written all over it.

That's probably what Hill thought last year too.

WBMD: More like contrasting with this year's H-M 2008 Hockey State Championship team!

The majority of the team from last year is back this year and it has to be obvious that they learned their lesson from last year's first round disaster. None of the players are going to want a repeat and in return this should hopefully fuel the Pioneers even more. As I said, if the Pioneers come out with the speed and confident defense and goaltending they displayed Friday night, then they should prevail.
Hill is once again coming in over confident
What are you stalking the team? It's Saturday afternoon buddy...tourney doesn't start for another week...H-M isn't looking past a thing.
