Mr. Mattson,

I think your son gets enough press, making this unnecessary.

Any relation to Danny and Taylor?

Danny and Taylor are not related. Danny's name is spelled Mattson, and Taylor's is spelled Matson. I don't believe Nick and Danny are related either.

Also, the story states that Nick is the Mattson's only son.

My son has played with Nick and against Nick, he is a great kid who everyone knew at a young age was very special. His parents are wonderful people and I wish Nick the best as he works his way through the program in Ann Arbor.

There are very few truly special players and Nick is one of them. Congrats Nick and I hope you make it all the way!!

Ever heard of two people being cousins?

Ever hear of two people having the same spelled last name and not being related?

"Nick's parent's had to sign over limited legal guardianship"

- to strangers.

NO WAY, NO HOW.

I'm glad my kids aren't that good.

Just read pt. 3. This really is a great series, and it's not about Nick Mattson.

No offense WBMD, Nick is a great kid, its just hard not to miss the story when its on the front page each day... I'am still an advocate for MN High School Hockey..... As a parent you can't make-up those three years their gone and not in your home, but that is not my choice to make.

How can a paper who is cutting staff, stealing computers from the Pioneer Press, and complaining how tough it is to compete in the online world of news send a reporter and photographer to Russia for a week to tell us a story no one really cares about? Guarentee that Nick Mattson has more lines written about him than all of the 16 teams in the state tournament do combined this week.

Oh yea this is the same paper that employs the Catholic bashing Nick Coleman, won't print the lady who killed 4 children while running a stop sign is an illegal immigrant with no license until their rival does, and cries because their endorsed candidate for Governor has lost 6 elections in a row and wants to change the system so their guy wins.

Israel bombs Gaza, Turkey invades Iraq, the Ford plant is closing and this is front page news three days in a row?

No place for your politic's here. The hockey community does not appear to be a very supportive one. A lot of jealousy and garbage talk about one another, no wonder hockey gets a bad rap.

I've found the story interesting because it shows the good and bad of leaving H.S. hockey. For players out there thinking that they'd like to pursue hockey at the highest level you get the other side of it including the fun things that you miss. Leaving home, school, classmates and friends behind to try and be the best at hockey is not an easy thing to do. There are no guarantees about how far Nick will go. You also see how hockey players go from being a primary player to a bench player as they move up to higher levels. Kids need to realize that the road to D1 schools or the NHL is not an easy one and takes great sacrifice.

Great article and it should be enjoyed by any fan of hockey or anyone desiring to play at a higher level in sports.

It's always good to get a look behind the scenes at something most of us don't get exposed to.

What also should be mentioned is that there are kids that don't take the path Nick did and still get college scholarships/get drafted/play pro hockey.

I am sure Nick is a great kid and I am sure he is a good player but it just seems off that 5 feature front page articles would be devoted to this story. Something is off with our media, our society and our families. No wonder so many kids are doing drugs and their is so much trouble in our world today.
