Peewee A State Tournament

All entrants are deserving, who is gonna win it?

To me D6 has the advantage, quite possibly the toughest district to come out of this year. With 4 and sometimes 5 teams rated in the top ten virtually all year it is hard to argue, but when Chaska wins the D6 playoffs and doesn't make it, anything can happen when the puck drops. A case could be made for many of the teams out of that district to be there, but only two could survive and the top two finishers from D6 made it.

You could make a case for each one of the teams there, Wayzata has been playing some great hockey and Little Falls (the unknown for most of the year) could surprise, but in the end it comes down to depth. Cloquet is a very well coached team and has the ability to go far, but drawing Wayzata in game one is a tough one to call. In the end I think Eden Prairie from top to bottom has the horses to get it done, especially when you throw in the job their coaching staff has done this year, hats off Mr. Rahn.

To all I say good luck, it will be a fun tournament to watch. I sure wish I could be there!

Woodbury has to be one of the clear favorites as well. They lost to a good Wayzata team 8-7 in OT (regional pool play) in one of the best Peewee A games ever.

The 4 Metro Teams should be the odds on favorites. Numbers are a direct link to the success of programs. I bet Edinas Pee Wee program
has as many if not more Hockey Players then the 4 northern teams
combined.
Thats great that the Metro teams have the numbers. The high
numbers indicate that they have very healthy and successful
programs of which they should be proud.
Since I'm an out-stater I will be watching & pulling for the teams
from the North. (No offense Metro)

Good Luck to all 8 TEAMS

The northern teams may have a disavantage to #'s I would agree. But there has to be something said about chemistry with whom you play with. Of course people are going to know most about the district or the region that they comes from. I have witnessed all northern teams play that are attending state and I would have a hard decision on who to pick. This will be a good state tournament and if I had to say something I'm rooting for the northern teams also and the city teams will have there hands full. Good luck to everyone. Any team making it to the MN State Peewee tournament has accomplished a tremondous feat. No matter what the outcome every kid can hold their head high and be proud of their season.

Agreed! Should be a great time for all the kids.

When I was a PeeWee any of these teams would have smoked us - (early 80's)! It just amazing to see the time, dedication & effort these kids put into the sport. Congrats and good luck to all.

I agree Superstar good old days of bloomington hockey..the skating and hands has improved tenfold..the coaching and goaltending is the same, but that is it. Good luck to your club in state

Maxpower for the most part I agree with you. One game I may disagree with is the Grand Rapids vs. Woodbury that one to me is a toss up. Cloquet in my mind should not even be in the tourney, but they won the games that mattered

Why should Cloquet be in the tournament? Please give me some insight into why you feel this way. I think they can beat Wayzata. I have seen Cloquet play 4 different times each against pretty good opponents. They look like a top 10 team to me.

Woodbury/Grand Rapids will be a great game...both teams are very skilled. #9 on Woodbury especially.

Cloquet deserves to playing Friday. They had numerous quality
wins this year over Coon Rapids, Elk River, Apple Valley, St Cloud,
Rosseau twice & tied Eden Prairie.

Cloquet is a lot better than you think, they've been tough all year.

I'm not saying that Woodbury can't win. I guess I just felt compelled to pick at least 1 "outstate" team, in the first round.
Honestly, I see both Little Falls and Cloquet as slightly stronger teams than Grand Rapids, but I just don't see either of them winning their first round game Vs Wayzata & Eden Prairie.
All 4 of the Metro Teams are VERY Strong.
3 of the 4 outstate teams are also strong.
In the past there has been too many weaker teams in the State Tournament. You used to be able to take 3 or 4 teams out of the running before the tourney even started. I just don't see that as the case this year.
This year has one of the strongest overall fields I've seen in a long time. I really would not be surprised to see any one of seven teams win this thing.

Max- so I see you give EGF no chance at winning this thing why? Would you have given Roseau a chance if they were there? I have seen EGF play several times and I see they have beat Grand Rapids who is also in the tournament and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a few games at the state tourament.

Sure EGF has a chance, more of a chance than 100 other PWA teams. Their playing, and the rest are at home.
If this was seeded, I would call them the 8 seed. They ARE the long shot to win this thing.
For EGF to win it all, they would have to beat Edina, probably Wayzata, and potentially Eden Prairie. That is the toughest road to a championship as anyone could imagine.
Sure EGF is 15-1 in their last 16 games. They have been playing very good hockey since Mid-January.
I am not putting them down, as they are a solid team.
But it would take a whole heck of a lot to convince me that they shouldn't be considered THE longest shot of the tourney.

WAYZATA=GINOS

Wayzata Wins State Tourney all the way no chance anything else. Prediction=
Wayzata beats everybody with their marginal defense but great offense averaging 7.9 goals a game.

On the season Wayzata goals against avg is 4.78 in 45 games on Mn Rankings. Just in case you wanted the real stats. They will most likely Win championship if they can keep the other team under 7 goals. Good Luck to your Team.
