So today in the pioneer press there was a preview for the state tourney. and within giving info on each team, it listed the enrollemnt of each school. i saw that st. thomas had over 1,000 students enrolled. does this make anyone else upset? they are still considered class A whent he enrollment is that high. i mean c'mon, they talk about how good they are each year when BSM has less than 800 and they moved to AA, and then there's Roseau. anyone else have thoughts?

STA is all male and has 550 boys in grades 9-12. They double it on the MSHSL website to equate it with co-ed schools. It's not the first time the Pioneer Press has it's facts wrong. However it is a large class A school because it is the same size as a 1100 student co-ed school.

I think the kids would prefer to play AA, They have the talent to play there, but the school has the "Big fish in a small pond theory approach"

I say, go to 3 classes. If folks dont like privates in class A , let them have a 3rd class for outstate teams and old first tier suburbs.
Then we could have Qrt final games at Aldrich and Braemar on Wewdnesday or maybe start Tuesday. It would be great . Just like Basketball.
Sound crazy? Its been discussed.

Nobody should be forced to do anything. After all, you don't see Warroad moving up.

Two different populations, same premise: they want hardware, not the principle of competing against the best, I'm afraid.

But NN, thats the case with almost all of the teams North of BIAFP.
Why pick on Warroad?

I dunno. Why pick on STA? (The reason is the Warriors are given special small town credit. No large school can expect to continue to collect lots of A hardware without receiving the full brunt of criticism.)
BTW, what is BIAFP?

BIAFP is a mythical place on the bored that divides the South from the North. A Mason -Dixon kind of thing.
Metro privates are in a little different place than Warroad is but if you want to pick on Warroad thats fine.
I just dont know what the diff is between Warroad and other small outstate places.

why start another stupid thread like this? this has been argued so many times on this board and not once has there been anything close to a conclusion. STA plays in class A, thats just the way it is. deal with it.
and to the bumbling idiot that said private schools are BS, that is just hilarious. some people just have no clue.

As an alum, I'm curious what the opinion of students/players/parents, those still with the walls of the school. TI14, or any others still there, what do you think about playing in class A hockey? Aside from all the heat you get on here for it, what is your opinion of where you are/should be?
STA in claa A is fine

I am an STA alum and current parent. My son plays hockey, but not on the team. I think STA is fine in class A. If the Coaches and Administrators wanted to move to AA, that would be fine as well. From the conversations I have had with administrators there are a number of very good reason why STA plays in the class A. I will not share them here in a public forum where a bunch of idiots roam. But I will tell you that I am very confident that the school has the best interest of the students in mind and make decisions based upon that. They could care less what these morons think. Nor will all this whining change anyone’s mind. If they didn’t whine about private schools, they would whine about Metro schools, then about school size.
This topic has been beat to death on prior post. I think it is time to enjoy the tournament and get off it.
