Coach Giles

Sorry, guys but I thought I would give my opinion on this. I am sure alot of you saw the one question interview with coach Giles. Does this guy have a personality at all? I grew up watching him, and because I was a smaller D, tried to copy his style and that. But oh my, Hanson only asked one question because of his boring answer, dont give the D man a little more credit for going end to end. Gee.

Also, I know I will be bashed for this comment - but why in the heck are the top players on the ice with less than 4 minutes left and you are up 4 - 0? Truely classless, yes I was a northerner, but I can honestly say I dont think any other team would be playing their top 2 lines (unless they only have 2) with less than 5 minutes left. And definately not in the final minute or 2 of the game up 5 - 0. That is a great opportunity to get the 3 and 4 lines in there and give them some ice, because from here on out, it will most likely be 2 - 3 lines, with a spotty 4 line. I would prefer to get those jitters out up 4 - 0, 5- 0 then throw them on in a big game. Unless I missed something, but I am pretty sure I saw and heard Anders Lee out on the ice in the final minute with his line.

If any other team does something like this, they are ensuring victory. When Edina does it, "classless". Maybe the were preserving a shutout =D>

As a concerned "Northerner", you should worry about stopping Anders Lee, not counting his shifts. [-X

I actually found coach Giles to be a very classy guy in my encounters with him.

What's "classless" about trying to preserve a shutout for a goalie?

Actually, I reread this after I posted. Maybe "classless" is the wrong word. Too strong of a word in this situation.

I dont agree with preserving the shutout, your already up 4-0 and then 5-0. Whats the difference between winning 5-0 or 5-1, your goaltenders stats the rest of the way will get him noticed and trust me, scouts who are there will know the circumstance of the lone goal.

As for counting shifts, no. Actually I did not notice until the announcer said his name with like 5 minutes left, then again with 330 left and again with 1 minute left.

And if CEC did the same thing, I would have posted the same.

Lets put the shoe on the other foot, lets say Anders Lee gets hurt, now are all you Edina fans not posting going what the heck was he out there for, we are up 4- 0 or 5- 0. You would be calling for Giles head.

Benildes first liner applehof scored a goal with no time on the clock so bsm must be classless

Definately disagree with this. It's the tournaments win and move on. There'll be time for hugs and ice-cream after the tournament is over.

If they were good enough to qualify for the tournament, CEC needs to be able to stop the Hornets (or any other team). In a three-game, three-day event, its no holds barred in my opinion. 8)

Maybe in the regular season........Not in the Tournament. There are few things worse than not being able to play in the 3rd period because you are concerned about rubbing it in.

Just let the kids play!

It would have been a great time to get the 3rd and 4th lines some icetime as they won't see it in the next two games.

I am an Edina guy, and to an extent, I was kinda thinking the same thing. But you should realize that, once they were up by 4, Giles shuffled the lines a bit. I believe Taft was with Everson and Budish while Lee was with Eppel and Chapman. So that at least partially addresses this issue.

But also, I'm really not one to gripe about a team playing their top guys as if they are trying to "run up the score" (well, maybe if it is a double-digit lead). I don't care what team or sport--if the Patriots want to leave Brady in what do I care. Oftentimes, I actually feel that it shows the opponent respect that a team is not just deciding to coast the rest of the way. But then there comes a point (say the last minute or two with a five-goal lead) where there really is no need for the top players to be out there. I thought he might have given that fourth line a shift.

They did for two years, four years ago. Nothing but praise since, and rightfully so. If you want to talk about fans getting on coaches' backs, look to Orono, not Edina.

When Curt Giles was at Duluth the Bulldogs began dryland with a mile run. He ran 100 yards and turned off the track. He then yelled back at the coach, "I ain't here on no track scholarship let me know when we hit the ice." He has always been a man of few words.

That is actually a true story! He's a good guy but isn't exactly what I'd call an extrovert.

Halla is correct about how the lines were switched up at the end of the 3rd period.

Edina did lose one player who would have been very helpful in solidying a blue line that has been good, but inconsistent. That player is Chris Student.

BSM coach is truely classless. His comments in the paper about the drw being unfair. He is team drew Woodbury, which I would say is the 6th best team in the tournament, behind the ranked teams and Blaine, so if anyone should be complaining its Roseau. In my opinion, he is playing the correct team. There also was an incident when the Star Tribune said that Minnetonka's Coach Urick had played for Edmonton. Pauly contacted the Star Trib and made them print a correction, saying that Urick played in Edmonton's system. Sounds pretty classless.
