How does 2008 tourny rank?

I would have to say this tourney was a little bit of a let down. Besides the Edina and Benilde game, I don't think it was very exciting. There was a lot of hype coming into the tourney and besides HM playing very good, nobody else seemed to have that same jump in their step. Just wondering where you think this tournament ranks (A and AA)

I would have to agree, a little down in my book. For the most part the quarterfinal games were brutal. The same can be said for most of the semifinal games. (Except BSM and Edina) The BSM-Edina game was an excellent game to watch but for the most part, was disappointed. But still, you can never have a bad state tourney, always fun to watch.

I don't think it was terrible, but the quarterfinals definitely lacked a game of real substance in my opinion.

Compared to last year with three of the top four seeds losing, this year was a let down. The games (quarters) were not as good at all.
Maybe next year.
362 days someone said in a prior post...

Completely agree. Not a "great" tourney. Need Grand Rapids back in it next year.

Quarters were to be expected due to seeding. Semi's were excellent! Both the Edina/BSM and Hill/Roseau matchups kept me fully engaged and entertained.
I can't believe that anyone would say the Hill/Roseau semi game was lackluster. The highly touted, undefeated, #1 seeded, defending champs with the Mr. Hockey apparent came to face a little respected Hill team. If that game didn't grab and hold your attention as Hill put on a butt kicking, I can't imagine what more you could want. (other than a different outcome)
Hill was forced to knock off the #1 and #2 seed to claim the trophy.
Great Tourney! I'm sure the Maplewood community would agree with me.

IDK the BSM-Edina game was awesome, and Hill's game on the Rams was good too... the score isn't always what the game is.
I really think if it came down to it at the end, a BSM vs HM game would have been great to watch, as both teams really came on big in the tourney!

Roseau wasn't the only team to get their butt kicked by Hill.

Well Roseau dominated the championship last year and Cretin the year before, at least this one was close, more exciting game this year. Hopefully next year we may see a barn burner come down to the last minute or something in that genre!

Tourney was down in terms of good games...the only real good game to watch was Edina/BSM. But as said before the state tourney is fun to watch no matter what.

With all of the top end talent this year we were expecting a great tournament. It didn't live up to the hype but their were still some great individual performances and a couple of very well played games. I was impressed with the way Hill kind of made it their tournament. They played outstanding hockey in all three zones throughout the tournament. Their ability to dominate in neutral ice was the big key for them. Teams could not generate any offense off of their forechecks against Hill because of the threat of counters off of turnovers.
I was surprised that some teams did not try more of a trap system against them to try and change the pace of the game. Trying to force turnovers at neutral ice and stop the long outlet passes from Hill seems to make sense to me. Hill is very good making the long outlet and using their speed to intimadate opponents.
Hill just played great raising their level of play and none of the other teams matched their level of play.

Edina ran the neutral zone trap at times but i agree with your points 100% Hockey Scout.
Hill dominated all three zones of the ice especially in the D-zone with their toughness on d- in the corners and in front of the net- and of course with philippi(sp?) in net.

that HM Roseau game friday night was a classic...Hill coming in waves but not getting that 4th goal...Roseau getting one back and then almost another. a very tense 3-1 type of game unitl the final few minutes where thigs got wierd with the extra goals..that was a sweet game.
and that was after the best game of the tourny the classic classic classic first Friday semi game those two games saved the tourny
so glad they see these teams to have that semi final potential powerhouse night of hockeyhockeyhockey

One of the most boring ive been to.The privates should have 1 section and the winner represent that section only.

I enjoyed the semis yes the quarterfinals were a let down and we didn't get to see the two perennial teams (Roseau and Edina) faceoff but it was still great.

This tourney was allot like 2006
The undergod private comes out on top, where the two top rated powers chocked (although in 2006 the two powers chocked at sections, which was #1 AHA and #2 Jefferson).

I agree it was somewhat like the 2006 tourney, our hm boys were favored to beat rapids and grand rapids came out with a game plan, played exceptional defense and beat us with defense and a hot goalie. As for PASTRAPIDS get your whining there were two private schools it gets annoying after the thousand times people suggest that. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

I thought it was GREAT watching an underappreciated Hill Murray team knock off #'s 1 and 2 and silence all the critics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
