As many of you saw, Tom Pohl was elbowed in the head sunday night in Mankato. His helmet was knocked off and his head hit the dasher of the boards and then hit the ice. Pohl was taken off on a stretcher then airlifted to Rochester. It's been reported that he has a fracture of the skull and some internal bleeding around the brain. As of monday, he's in intensive care but doing all right. Thoughts and prayers to the Pohl family and a speedy recovery.

The Pohl's are living every hockey parent's nightmare. You let them skate because they love it so much and as adults you know it's rare to find something that brings that much joy into your life. The risks are slim but when they happen, so often catastrophic. Please know that every parent is praying for you and your son, and wishing your family the best.

I hope all is ends well. This should be a lesson to all kids to properly put on the bucket!

I wondered when someone would bring this up. I really wonder how bad the injury might have been if his helmet had not flown off. If a helmet is worn "properly" they shouldn't come off this easily. The face-masks are designed to help hold the helmet in place, and the straps are there that if snugged up, will hold the helmet in place. Instead, these players like everything loose.
I hope Pohl recovers quickly, it was a scary thing to see.
Kids - WEAR YOUR HELMETS PROPERLY!!

Sounds like he's on the road to recovery. Latest article from Pioneer Press stated he was improving.

That's great he is recovering. It's a shame he has to miss playing but I guess it could have turned out a lot worse.
Good luck Tom. It'll be good to see you back with the guys.

I posted this on another board, but it probably belongs here as well.
Great story on KMSP 9 tonight. He's a lucky kid and has some nice things to say about the people who saved his life...and the other kid who hit him.
