Will he stay and play with a less than average hockey team at Anoka?
-or will he bail out?

If he wants to progress and compete at the next level. He needs to leave Anoka. He's a talented kid with good size. He will be able to handle himself.

Go to Jr's (which he could play) or stay home and play, in no particlular order...JMO :D

Not true at all. So long as he plays and continues to work at his game, he will be fine no matter where he plays, regardless of the caliber of team he has around him. Where do people get the notion that you have to leave if your playing for an average or subpar team to get to the next level? You either got it or ya don't. Won't matter where you play.

I forgot about this kid, he is a nice player. If he stays at Anoka, he can always go play juniors next year.

Very nice player. He's big and strong, skilled, he can fire the puck, play the body, and has pretty decent hands. Someone will probably be willing to give him a good luck regardless if he goes to juniors. Hopefully he won't let it go to his head especially if he stays at Anoka next year...

well playing against him, if something goes bad it gets to his head. One bad pass or bad shot is a ticking time bomb in his head.

According to maxPreps he had 3 goals and 2 assists when he played against Elk River. From what I see from those numbers, no "time bomb" went off..

I've heard rumors that he is moving to Blaine for his senior year. :D :D :D

It would be very nice to see him skating at the X in March in a baby blue sweater and help make it a 4-peat!

Elkshock22...you started this thread...and have made a couple comments...but clearly don't know your a_ _from a hole in the ground regarding Berkley's over-all game and how he has grown as a player.

Having known Berkley for many years...I do know one thing for sure...Berkley has the ability to go as far in hockey as he wants to go...and I think he will be playing D1 hockey down the road.

And BTW...Anoka broomed ER last season...you'd know that if you've ever actually stepped on the ice for ER.

Getting back on topic...IMO...what Puckranger said above is very accurate regarding Berkley...and most other high end HS players facing similar circumstances:

Can you confirm the rumor that he is considering moving to Blaine? He would be a nice addition to Blaines team, thats for sure. He is a smart player, and it would be nice to see him get to the State tournament next year and if he stays with Anoka that would be next to impossible (since they are losing so many seniors).

if he had a brain, he would move to duluth and attend Duluth Marshall, then at least he could showcase himself at state

If that's the case, he might as well stay closer to home go to STA and actually win it.

if you are a good enough player you are going to get noticed no matter if you play for an average or sub par team. the only reason to jump to juniors early is to play against better competition. if you stay the average team that just means you have to work harder to get better.

Berkley is a very good player but nowadays skills are not enough to bring you to the next level (D1 hockey). He does not need to move on to another high school or go to juniors early, he needs to settle down and get his grades up. I know for a fact that he already is being watched by some but his grades and off-ice antics are stopping people from offering him anything beyound high school. His talent and physical play far exceed John O'neils but the off-ice stuff has given him a bad rep.

Totally agree, I heard early in the season he missed 2 weeks due to academic inelligability, not sure if its true. The kid has amazing talent and I know he's had some D-3 offers and probobly D-1 offers. As long as he gets his grades up you'll see this kid playing D-1 hockey someday.

Berkley was never "academically ineligible"...what happened was mid-quarters came out, the coaches weren't happy with his progress to date and to get his atttention, they sat him against Maple Grove and North Metro (Thursday & Saturday games) which Anoka still won. No further issues of this type occurred during the HS season. He's not currently holding any D1 offers. Being only a junior, I doubt he would even consider a D3 offer at this point. If he continues to improve the way he did during the past High School season...he will be playing D1 hockey somewhere, most likely beginning in 2010-2011.

Good call as always, GR3343 - "Mr. Scott" isn't around, which I'm sure has caused some of Berkley's issues. You continue to come off as a pompous, arrogant ass in virtually every post - yet you seem to actually know very little.

Good luck to the Scott kid. Good player whose best option (even though none of you want to hear it) may be major junior.

Sorry for the attempt at humor. Never ripped the kid though so back off. Guess I forgot the emoticon to show I was kidding. Actually know nothing of the kid or his issues. Only seen him play a few times and thought he showed some good skills but even more arrogance. I wasn't the one commenting on his troubles. Good luck to him though.
