Only Private schools recurit?

From the Star Tribune today ... "Three brothers will play on three different teams this week. Joe Bright is a junior at Cooper in 4A, John Bright is a junior at St. Bernard's in 2A and Jeff Bright is a freshman at Minneapolis Henry in 3A."

Bottum line: recuriting is happening everywhere and in every sport by both public and private schools. People who want to point the recuriting finger only at private schools are missing the real issue?

I'm guessing that's basketball because neither Henry nor St. Bernard's has a hockey team (that isn't consolidated), and hockey isn't being played this week.

I don't know anything about the state of high school basketball, but I seriously doubt there's one iota of recruiting in this story.

Yes it is basketball, but the MSHL rules on recuriting apply the same across all sports; and Public schools recurit in Hockey too?

Dependings on how you define "recruiting". That my point, so many on the board throw around the private school recruiting point with no facts. Kids (and parents) are choosing schools for a number of reasons. I think it is very simplistic to think public schools are not pushing "recruiting" and yes in Hockey too.

I love how your're trying to tell half the story and convice us of your bs... so from that 1 sentence blurb in the paper, how did you come up with the fact that those kids were "recruited"? Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that maybe they have different parents? Or maybe they moved while one is in one school so they left him there? Or maybe it has to do with the The Choice Is Yours program in Minneapolis where kids in Minneapolis can attend schools in other districts? Maybe there was a discipline problem from one of them and he had to leave?

From that 1 sentence in the paper, how did you get "recruiting"? Honestly, I'd like to know. :?

Oh I see and all the other posters on this board that consistently whine about private schools recruiting cites specifics, yea right.

My point is, just becasue Private schools do not operate the same as public does not mean that the kids that attend there were recurited.

Show me one proven instance of a private school recuriting.

What do you suppose the public schools are using to recruit these kids? The safety of metals detectors?

Who cares? Recruiting is a good thing.

It shows a school cares about getting quality students and athletes in the doors so the school can be better.

I say, make recruiting mandatory and force schools to get the word out about what they have to offer so we can make intelligent choices about where we go.

Lets keep America strong and recruit.

How about:

1) Winning traditions,
2) Excellenat Coaches
3) Excellent facilities,
4) Programs that have contacts with college programs

And I am sure there are alot more.

Then you're absolutely blind and/or stupid... you think coaches aren't out talking to players to get them to attend private schools? Even the most staunch supporter of private schools on the board, PB, knows that it happens. Get a clue kid. I'm sure there are several players (or former players) on this board who will tell you that they were approached and asked questions about school plans by private school coaches.

And, I'm not making an accusation here - YOU are. You show us one example of a public school recruiting. This lame sentence you provided doesn't count because you clearly know nothing of this situation, and I have no doubt in my mind that you're completely wrong about what you're accusing these schools of... nice try though.

I think private schools are "evil"? Is that another one of your lame attempts at a generalization about something you know nothing about? Read around, youngster. You'll see that I'm perfectly fine with some private schools and am an avid supporter of one in particular.

cre·tin [kreet-n or, especially Brit., kret-n] - noun

1. a person suffering from cretinism.
2. a stupid, obtuse, or mentally defective person.

Well, not exactly that one, but I am detecting a bit of irony with that name!

Not only do I know it happens, I insist that it does for both private and public.

Please see last year's Central girls basketball...or Hopkins boys hoops. The modifications to the transfer rules were just as much a puplic school issue as it was a private school issue. Players migrated to successful public school sports for similiar reasons people migrated to private schools, but perhaps couldn't/didn't want to pay tuition.

Freddy Coleman tranferred from Harding to Johnson a couple years ago, was that a bad thing? He had contact with Johnson's coaches & players. He knew the kids on Johnson's teams, and opted to transfer because Johnson's football & basketball teams were much better than Harding's.

This situation happens all the time. Would you call this recruiting? Personally, I have no problem with Freddy's decision.

Well there ya go... I may finally be coming around on this, PB.

Perhaps the way to go is to take all of the Bantams in the state, gather them in the Minneapolis Convention Center over a weekend in August, and have an annual MSHSL Draft. I think it could work. Those that aren't selected are put into a "free agent pool", and can be brought in for the right "price".

We've never been successful at even defining recruiting here. The closest we came was...

"The incessent whining that goes on following a private school State championship".

Thats right Ppg, all US Americans are doing it. Its good for our country.

BTW, I have told you guys about the time I first posted on the bored?

Yup, It was under heavy sniper fire and I had to be rushed into the Cafe for safety. At least thats the way I remember it. That ought to end whatever slim hope she had left
