Does anyone that has a daughter that attended the freshman/sophomore camp care to give an opinion of the camp from last year? I'd appreciate the input.

My daughter attended the camp last year as a Freshman and loved it. She enjoyed the comaraderie with the other girls. The coaches worked the them hard both on the ice and off. Her coach for the week was Brano Stankovsky from Blake...great coach and a nice guy. Assuming it doesn't conflict too much with other sports, she is planning on attending again this summer.

Great camp...this will be my 4th year working at it and it's always a great experience. Girls have fun getting to know players from other teams, and they work hard all day and evening doing on-ice and off-ice skills.

Dumb question....but who is eligible...current freshman/sophomores or is it next years?

Who is in charge of the invitations?

MGHCA does invites for those who are Freshmen or Sophomores right now. I think coaches send the MGHCA their nominations for who they think should be invited, and I think some coaches just send all the names of their freshmen/sophomores. Believe there is an invite to a tryout for the camp, at least that's how it has been done in the past.

Does anyone know how they notify the girls that get invited after try-outs?

The girls are notified by mail. I was told that the letters started going out last night so I would assume that most girls will get their letters in the next few days.

When does this/did this take place? Did they already invite and have tryouts?

It is my understanding that Phase 2 was a tryout and for those girls that were not in Phase 2 there was a separate tryout at New Hope on the same weekend as Phase 2. I could be wrong but I think that is the way it was handled.

So...if you did "ok" at the advanced 17 phase 2 and you are a sophomore you might get invited?

no if you got invited to tryout for NDP and freshman sophomore and made it to phase 2 for NDP then they evaluated you in that tournament and will let you know by mail if you got into freshman/ sophomore

Do girls that made it to Selects 15s camp normally go to fresh/soph camp also? Or do just the girls that don't move on to selects go to fresh/soph camp?

Yes they went out quite a while ago. Paperwork, if attending, was asked to be returned by May 23rd. They may still be inving alternates though.

I know it will be the week after the 4th of July (5-10), but I don't have the particulars as to cost or try-out process this year.

According to last year, the camp was supposed to be for girls that played varsity as freshmen or sophomores. For this year that means that girls that played varsity as freshmen or sophs for the 2008/2009 are eligible. In general, girls are selected by one of two ways. They are either evaluated at the NDP Phase 2 or if a player doesn't tryout for NDP or didn't make it as far as Phase 2 then there is a separate tryout held on the Phase 2 weekend. That was the way they did it last year. It might have changed this year. The important thing is that if you think your daughter is eligible and she would like to attend make sure that you pursue it with your coach because typically they have openings and sometimes girls that should be there fall through the cracks when invitations are sent.

As with anything in hockey there are always exceptions to the rules. Last year I was told that one school's entire JV team was at the camp (not exactly girls that played Varsity). Regardless of the exceptions, I heard that most of the girls loved the camp. It was hard work but there was lots of camradrie and good development. The talent was probably not as top notch as was touted but I heard that the camp was still good. I can't remember the cost (I think it was around $600) but it was similar to what you would pay for a similar overnight camp, maybe a little less. All and all, my daughter worked hard and had fun and I think she would recommend it to others.

Any updates on this as to who/how to get in or who to contact with questions? My daughter is a freshman who was in NDP phase II so if I understand right that counted as a tryout? Anyone know the cost roughly also? Thanks for info!
