I like the Meltdown and Independent Classic. These two seem to draw the most teams from out of state and Canada. I think its fun for the players here in Minnesota.

Easton Cup is much more watered down at the invite level then the Meltdown, while ran by the same company, the Meltdown benefits being a spring trny. You see my friend in Canada eh, they may already be in school by this time, while the Meltdown is in the thick of all AAA teams schedules. This year it appears at the older level the Easton Cup Invite and the Lake Superior Stars invite is the same weekend...... Where do you go? Also you have the very competitive Walleye Classic going on at Mariucci the same weekend for the older age.
The Easton Cup at the open level again is weaker then the Meltdown.
To put in Bernie perspective : The Meltdown could be the "choice league" while the Easton Cup could be "Chaska advanced mite league" Go BRNEMCBANE

I know duckduck, but you didn't ask what tournament is best that occurs before August. You simply asked what tournament.

I feel the Meltdown or Independent tourneys were very organized. We're looking forward to playing in the Easton cup.

I do! If your association doesn't move kids up or offer an advance Mite program then it's time to ask why? Of course there's also Choices for hockey parents. If your association doesn't offer any of these some private programs will offer more ice time and development. The best thing about it the kids will all be at the same skill set.
Keep in mind last year my association didn't offer anything close to advance Mite program or offer the kids a chance to move up. They had first time skaters playing with the more advance mite players. That was interesting to watch when we attended games and watched the end of season jamboree.
Then Minnesota made offers a Choice Mite league and out of no where associations start offering the mites more ice time, advance mite teams the opportunity to play up with squirt C's. Hmmm? Lose some players and the associations will take notice and revamp their programs to what parents actually want. Imagine that? Makes me wonder why they didn't do it sooner?
I do admit that our association is making some great moves this year. Its fun to watch.
