From today's Pioneer Press

A five-on-five no-checking high school hockey league begins Sept. 29 at the Wakota, West St. Paul and Drake arenas. Teams committed include Hill-Murray, Eagan, Breck, Cretin-Derham Hall, Armstrong, Woodbury and North St. Paul.

Anyone know of a schedule for this?

If it's a no checking league, then why would a lot of the Elite guys want to play in it?

Why get hurt before the season starts? The High School coaches love the fact that there is no checking before the season starts.

Eastview and White Bear just signed up for the league.

I don't believe the teams are really "coached". I think it's more of a parent just standing on the bench.

This looks to be a promising league though, in its first year it already has some solid players in it.

My son played in the 4 on 4 no checking last year. If it's anything like the 5 on 5, Great league and great preparation for tryouts. Basically the coach was just a parent to monitor the door, clock, etc.

Will be interesting to see how this goes. Looks like quite a few JV players from last year on the H-M roster. Anybody know if the Anthony Cascalenda on team #3 is related to Dave and Jay?

Hill-Murray beat the Eagan team tonight. I think the score was 8-2. It seems to be a pretty well run league. The buzzer went off every minute for line changes and the ref kept things running smoothly.

I thought the game was a lot of pug hog hockey. Lot's of kids trying to go end to end solo. I won't be going to any more games.
