I am not sure if this has been posted before, but goalie Michael Webb has transferred back to Edina, and is eligible to play because he changed residences. He played for Holy Angels the last 2 seasons I believe.

Now that IS news. Wonder how the other Edina goalies are feeling about this? Hasn't he been at more schools than Holy Angels?

Now we need to get some verification about this. Yes Webb has played at a couple of schools.

Its true, except I'm not sure about his eligibility. He may have to serve some suspensions, also, but again I only know he is back at Edina.

I also have heard this is fact..but no idea if it was residence change.

Did Edina recruit the HM recruiter or something?

Michael Webb is a hockey gypsy. His story goes something like this: played some traveling at Edina, went to Shattuck, went to Holy Angels and now is at Edina. I heard he is a good kid, but ran into some trouble at Holy Angels. Not sure about that.

It should be some good competition between him and Ankeny.

As for eligibility, his dad is smart guy. I would imagine that he did his due diligence before making his decision to move Michael.

Wow, talk about a blockbuster move. I don't know anything about Ankeny, but if he's good it should be a battle. Webb if on can be a great goalie. I was thinking if they have a goalie, they will be real tough to beat. Sounds like they have 2 capable ones now.

I know Webb and Ankeny personally. Ankeny is a better team player and is very dedicated. He loves the game, works hard and is honost.

Webb has lived a crazy life and has experienced a lot. He is very wild and makes dumb decisions, but he lives hockey. The kid can play.

Overall I would rather have Ankeny as my starting tendy, but obviously Webb will probably get the knod.. I know Webb will have to serve a suspesion so hopefully Ankeny will play well in his place..

All I know is once Sections comes around, Ankeny will start cause Edina won't want Webby starting against AHA.

I must say, I'm a little disappointed that you haven't started a thread about Johnson Hockey's bright future. Tony Villneauve aka Mr. Outlaw is enrolled at Johnson and is eligible to play due to the transfer exceptions with "divorced parents". As I understand, a player is allowed one move if their parents are divorced. Looks like Johnson is well on their way to a state title!

I hope they stay with Ankeny who has shown loyalty to his team. I'd like to see the coaches draw a line in the sand with these types of transfers and play the kids that have come up through the system.

Novel idea...but when it comes down to it IMHO the coach has to put the best players eligible to play, on the ice to give the team the best chance of winning.

In High School hockey the coach never has to do something. I do agree with you that in most cases they should put the best players on the ice. But, I also hope that coaches remember that this is High School hockey and there is something to be said about teaching a lesson of loyalty and hard work by doing everything you can for the players that have always participated and been part of your program.

A coach can lose credibility when, year after year, they encourage kids to work hard on their game, participate in all the off season stuff (usually at a profit to the coach) and then they end up giving spots to kids who have put little effort in during the off season or who've show up just before the season starts. If the player is that much better, so be it. But if they are roughly the same, go with the kid that has been with you and your program all the way through.

Ankeny transferred back to Edina from Benilde last year, so I don't really know how much loyalty he has showed either.

Then you should lay off it, because it's clear I wasn't comparing anything.

My point was that if Webb works out and shows that he's the better option, Giles isn't going to take the moral high ground for the betterment of high school hockey in the state and bench him because he transferred in. Please.

G93 Here is the rub. Too many PARENTS use this site as a venting hole, taking shots at kids at times for a number of reasons, whether by promotion or demotion of their abilities.

This is High School Hockey we are discussing on this forum. With regard to your recent comparison of Edina's transfers of Lee and Ankeny or Webb, you imply that morally they should be punished because of their lack of loyalty, and Giles by example did not somehow punished Lee for his crime, suggesting Webb would embraced by the program with a town parade, flowers and a new set of green and gold pads.

Do you really think that Lee or Ankeny woke up one day and said Hey Mom & Dad, I am going to STA for 8th grade or Benilde for that matter? If you have a gripe with this issue it would be the parents who are at issue here. With the sensitivity of the public to private transfers, I would think a trend reversal of private schools to public would be welcomed. Also, all three of the kids mentioned, have always lived in Edina and played association hockey while growing up. They have not transferred in as you state.

Lastly, I think this site would have a completely different vibe and attitude if people were not allowed to have their private handles to hide behind. Perhaps, it would be more positive.....

The ultimate decision is in Giles' hand. His job is to put the best players onthe ice for the team to play at their optimum ability. Who cares if they are transfers for their junior or senior year. If the transfers are legal then there is no point ot be discussed.

But remember when this happens and private schools get transfers for their junior or senior year. When that happens it is all about recruiting and not about whether the kids moved or whatever.

Fact is here that Edina lost a good goalie and now they have two good goailes. But the other fact is no one is guarenteed the title. Edina has all the talent in the world and have not gotten it done with that talent. Yet....

I would like you to reference themy quote where I compared the two players, and how I implied they should be "punished" please. I don't care who the players are or what school they're going to.

I said no such thing... I said the opposite. That Giles isn't obligated to do anything because it'll somehow "improve" high school hockey in the eyes of some fan of another squad.

Slow down speed reader. I'd still like you to provide my quote saying that they should be punished.
