Why is that a joke. If you do not know, the USHL is a business. no free passes in the league. They went to the SF tryout camp last summer, made the all star game and obviously someone out there likes them. Probably not going to waste 2 picks on kids they don't think can help them in the future.

USHL teams take more than talent into consideration when drafting. They also pick kids they think might actually play for them some day. Keep that in mind, and know that this isn't an accurate way to gauge how good the "experts" think these player are.

Although, FWIW, I believe the first five on this list all turned down the USNTDP.

boy i have to say not alot of minnesota hs players were drafted.. any ideas as to why?

Tough to say, a lot of kids that were ranked were passed over for one reason or another. Roseau had some kids overlooked, GR, Duluth, EP, Benilde. Big list of quality kids, but being it's a Futures Draft pick doesn't guarantee anything. A lot of the overlooked kids will get their chance to turn some heads this high school season and possibly be drafted in May. Being 16 and not being chosen in this draft doesn't mean those kids are done by any means. The second 2/3 of the Futures Draft was dedicated to players born in 90/91. The same will apply next year as the second 2/3 of the Futures will be for 91/92.

That number is actually very high.

Oh that's right, you're one of those northwoods guys that can't fathom that the rest of the country has cought up to the great state of hockey in producing players.

the rest of the country is catching up thats funny!! do you think that because its written that a kid is from california thats where he played hockey? theirs alot of cozey midget AAA coaches that get their way with some of these picks. you take the best hs team from any other state on a year to year basis and their not gona compete in minnesota. 20% is not a very high mark from a state that has a rink around every corner and probley has by far and away more hockey players than most. the numbers either dont add up or minnesota needs to figure out why were not producing the numbers we should be out of our hs ranks...

You are correct, the futures draft does not guarantee anything. Many futures picks don't even play in the USHL for a variety of reasons.

Surprise about Lapic on a couple of fronts. One, I am surprised that he had not been drafted before. Two, I believe he is going to Wisconsin. I would imagine that Wisconsin would want him to play at least one year of JRs. Why was he not drafted sooner?

Lapic was drafted last year and was released this fall by Tri-City

Correct. And because he didn't want to play USHL this season, and because Tri-City wanted to free up some roster room, they released him. Now, Omaha is banking on the fact that Lapic will be playing USHL next year. Assuming Lapic isn't injured or anything, that's a pretty safe bet.

These kind of transactions happen all the time... it is a business, after all.

I thought someone on here said he had hurt his knee in the spring or summer and had to have surgery..

There only limitation is their size and they have shown repeatedly that they can handle themselves very well at all levels and eliminate the size issue. Should not be a surprize to see SF get the brothers, seeing Reilly has part ownership in SF. Both are very skilled and both have good hockey sense. Like it or not, size is an issue for both Reilly's and only time will tell if they be able to grow enough in order to over come this objection.

i keep seeing talk of the Riley's size - how big are they? These posts make them sound like they would have more sucess with midget bowling.

size hasn't seemed to hold back Ness or Schroeder - and we have heard about how small they are for years now. How do these guys compare?

Can you say Patrick Kane? Hasn't Martin St. Louis won NHL scoring titles? Need I mention Gretzky? Even Sidney isn't that big. It's a skill game baby.

I hope there is a set of Double Mint Twins in the future too since they're inseparable.

It may be a skill game, the Reillys aren't very good. They in no way compare to Schroeder or Barribal, who dominate despite their size. The Reillys get pushed around and may score in high school because they continually float and have never heard of defense. They don't play hockey, they play offense and still rely on Mattson to set them up.

If it is true that their dad is in the ownership group, that would explain them getting drafted.

Okay. I read this forum constantly and finally have to step in and say something to back up the reillys. I have to back up my former teammates. scoreboard33 I think you are a little jealous of the reilly boys. You or your kid must not be in the Elite League and probably didn't get drafted. I can almost guaranteed they are getting recruited pretty big time. So keep your comments to yourself buddy, there is no need for you to come and rip kids apart on a message board. They have amazing talent and hockey sense and are gonna go somewhere big. You are just jealous two kids smaller than you are twice as good as you or your kid. For you to come and talk on a message board like this and try and cut kids down shows you are insecure and pathetic. Maybe you should stop wasting your time on here, running your mouth, and maybe go work and get better. You obviously need all the help you can get if your cutting kids down. Get a life pal.
