I am in need of some information. What is Junior Gold Hockey all about. Is it usually players that do not make their high school teams or just the opposite, is an elite league? The community I live in does not have a Junior Gold team so I do not know much about it. My son is still many years away from High school hockey but will probably attend a private school(for education purposes) that has a top notch program. Just in case my son is not that caliber of player in high school is Junior Gold another alternative for him? Thanks for any information anyone can give. Good luck at the rink.

Junior gold is for players cut from varsity or who choose not to play high school. It is definitely not as good as high school, but, no lies, I would say that some years the Junior Gold A teams from Edina, Eden Prairie, Wayzata, Burnsville, White Bear Lake, Bloomington, Minnetonka.... are almost a mediocre varsity team. No lies. Now all high school players would never agree to that fact simply b/c they have never seen a Junior Gold game none of the less a GOOD junior gold team. However, if you ever have the chance to see two of the top teams this year for J.G. (yet to be determined) you will see that is a very good league. Every player I have talked to that played junior varsity or varsity and junior gold, all said that Junior Gold is way more fun. My two cents.

As a player who played at both levels, I can say that Jr. Gold is extremely fun as well. Nothing will ever compare to wearing your schools colors in front of your peers in a varsity game, but Jr. Gold can come close.

Question for Anyone: How would compare Junior Gold to Junior Varsity and why would a player choose one over the other?
