Coaches Helmets and Certification

Does your association still require helmets for coaches on the ice? I was at an arena this weekend where none of the coaches had helmets on.
On that same not does your association verify the coaching certification or are both the helmet and certification requirements not watched very close anymore?

There are some associations whose mites aren't affiliated with USA Hockey so I suppose the mite coaches are not covered by that rule. Our district and our association check all of the coaches certs (the assoc. via the USA website). Coaches are suspended if they don't wear helmets, I don't think we've had anyone this year have any problems.

Coaches are required by USA hockey to wear helmets. As long as the team has an association with USA hockey the coaches are required to wear them. I am not sure why this still comes up as this has been around since 2006. There are no associations/districts that have made any changes to this rule.

I thought it was just a Minnesota Hockey requirement and not USA Hockey. At least, I know that was the initial rule. If USA Hockey ALSO recently mandated that, I haven't seen it.

COACHES REQUIRED TO WEAR HELMETS
USAHOCKEY COACHING PROGRAM
During the 2006 Annual Congress, USA Hockeys board of directors passed new legislation mandating that all coaches and instructors wear helmets during on-ice sessions. The complete legislation, effective at the start of the 2006-07 season, reads as follows:
All ice hockey coaches and instructors of registered USA Hockey Youth/High School, Disabled, Girls/Womens 19 & Under and below programs must properly wear an ice hockey helmet during all on-ice sessions, including practices, controlled scrimmages and coach and referee clinics (seminars).
Every year there are injuries to coaches that could have been prevented by wearing a helmet, USA Hockey President Ron DeGregorio said of the change in policy. This legislation represents a positive step forward for the safety of our coaches.

I agree with your statments. When the rule came in I thought it was taking away my rights but since I have witnessed three different coches at three different arenas and associations fall and hit their heads quite hard and are here today only because of the helmet rule. Plus I think I look good in plastic. Just a little humor for some of you crabby people.
