Nothing says it's the beginning of hockey season in Duluth like the annual Central Slaughter at the hands of the Greyhounds. *Karl sighs in a contended manner while reminiscing on these happy childhood days*
The only question this year is whether East will meet its annual Central Quota of 9 goals, as they have in the past 3 years. Anything less/more will be somewhat encouraging/discouraging for Central but probably not mean much of anything for East, which will be happy to be 1-0 and move on to somewhat more difficult opponents.

Is the Heritage Center new? I remember hearing about a new rink being built in Duluth, but I couldn't remember the name of it.

It just opened a few months ago. Youth games have been held there, but tomorrow night will be the boys high school kickoff with two games. I had a tour of it prior to completion and it's
very nice. This is a much needed boost for the Lincoln Park area.

OK, thanks. I asked because I know I can get 610 streaming live online. 560 appears to have the option, but I can't get it to work. If someone else knows how to make it work, please let me know.
Otherwise, I simply request frequent updates.

I think East is already up 5 - 0...

Karl, try the link under "WEB" in the "What's On Today" section at prephockeynorth.com. You should get a FAN560 popup window, then a warning asking you to download a file - download it, this is the stream location. It should then open up the media player on your computer and start playing.

When I click on the link, all I get is a blank white screen with the FAN logo at the top, and no information/suggestion of a download. I've tried going through the FAN website and opening the media player beforehand as well, and nothing seems to be working.
Thanks for your help though; I'll keep trying and now I know where to look for broadcast information.

It must be a security setting... Here's one last thing you can try:
Open up the media player, go under file --> Open URL. Copy and paste this URL into the player:

From the looks I have had the Heritage Center looks amazing. The one thing I have heard people comment on is that there is no press area. Only spots in the corners making it hard to see things in corners and numbers coming at you.
Looking forward to seeing the facility in action tonight!

This should be a tough game for the Trojans of Central. I give a ton of credit to Centrals staff and kids as they are working hard and the coaches are really trying to develop these kids by doing the right things. Congrats to both teams as they play their first game in the new Heritage Arena.

It's great to know the first ever hockey season at the Heritage is starting tonight. That being said, it's not going to be exciting hockey this evening. Last year East beat Central I want to say 9-0 and Denfeld who plays Ashland in the other game beat the Oredockers 11-1 last season. I'd expect similar results out of both games this year as well.

East wins 11-0. I'd advise against using the Central game as a gague of how East will do this year, but this is the best they've played against Central in the past 5 years, if that means anything. East's JV/4th liners outplayed Central in the 3rd period. East's depth is pretty impressive.

Tardy had 3, Mellins was actually Tardys.
