The Duluth Marshall game vs. Totino Grace was a game that this person says was the most exciting hockey game he has ever witnessed. The game had virtually everything.
Duluth Marshall started strong but the Eagles scored a fluke goal to take a 1-0 lead. Marshall showed how strong they were as they scored a minute later to take the lead. The Hilltoppers scored another goal before the period was over and had a 2-1 lead after one period.
The Eagles scored early in the second period but once again D Marshall scored within the next minute and followed it up with three more to knock out Olson the goalie and take a 6-2 lead after two periods of play.
The Eagles did not have a shot on goal in the third period for over seven minutes. They did score on their first shot in the period with seven and a half minutes remaining and then they went nuts!!! They scored another with five and half minutes remaining followed by another with four minutes remaining to close it to 6-5. Then with three minutes remaining they amazingly tied it up at six knocking out Marshall goalkeeper Paul. You thought that with all of the momentum the Eagles would score the next goal but instead with 1:56 remaining the Hilltoppers scored to take a 7-6 lead. With a minute remaining the Eagles were in the box and they called time-out. They were able to get their goalie pulled and Marshall could not get the puck out of their zone. Finally with five seconds Joe Novitski blasted one in to tie it up at seven all. With that goal Novitski had the hat-trick with all three goals in the third period. The Eagles ended up with an amazing 24 shots in the final eight minutes of the period.
The overtime started with the Toppers getting a breakaway but the Eagle goalie made a great save. The Eagles then went down and had a chance but Joe Kozlak said enough is enough and put a nice low shot in for Duluth Marshall giving him the hat-trick.
The three goals by Kozlak gave the Hilltoppers leads of 2-1, 7-6, and finally the 8-7 winning goal.
The score-sheet had 15 spots for goals and penalties and they were all used as Marshall had 8 penalties to the Eagles 7 and 8 goals to the Eagles 7. Also, with every player playing in the game and the game going to O.T. it was a game that had everything. Shots on goal were 44-42 in favor of the Eagles. This was the greatest high school hockey game I have ever witnessed in person. At least for a regular season game. Channel four was there taking some highlights but they left after the first period. That is when they should have came to the game, not left.
If you were there, what did you think of it?
