Breck started out the season being hyped up quite a bit, as did Duluth East; the only difference being that Breck has yet to live up to that hype.

Based on the Hound's impressive play at the Heritage vs. Anoka, I don't think Breck will come close in this game. 5-0 Hounds

I wouldnt feel comfortable putting any money on this game but for the fun of it ill have to give my nod to the Stangs. Although they are a very young team you can expect the best out of goalie Jon Russell and not to mention their goal scorers... I mean personally I wouldn't want to mess with the likes of Riley Borer, Mikey Morin, Tyson Fulton, Charlie Borer, and no one forgets Joe Rehkamp. Im also quite intrigued to see how my hometown boy Austin Rudnick fairs for The Breck School.

Hold on now. While the Hounds appear to be a very good team, don't count the Mustangs out just yet. The Hounds beat a pretty average Tonka team and honestly a below average Moorhead squad plus a handfull of average teams.

The Mustangs beat Moorhead in their scrimmage 5-0 and Tonka 4-2 as well. They also easily handled a pretty good Hill Topper team 5-1 in the season opener.

I think that while the odds favor the Hounds a bit it could go either way. This is the best team that East has played so far and if they look past the Stangs or don't bring their "A game" they will be headed to the loser's bracket early.

The same Breck team which lost to Mahtomedi and was whacked by STA? (hint: those weren't scrimmages, they were real actual games) Is East their only Class AA opponent this season? Image

Dont be too modest Lee. We cant make all of our assumptions based on how many AA teams they play this season. :D

And as a side note you cant get angry with a young team for having a couple off games. When they bring their fire the Stangs could easily trump the Hounds of the north. They should be even more fun to watch when their now youngsters turn to seasoned vets

Breck plays Johnson and Como Park (both AA) each twice then three AA teams in the Schwan Cup making up all the AA teams on their schedule.

While it is a decent point, the class of the team doesn't determine their ability.

Duluth East 7, Breck 2. You heard it hear first.

charlie borer is out, maybe for the season with a shoulder injury. That is a big loss for Breck. They also have not played a game for 2 weeks. My money would be on Breck 3-2

East will not give up 2 goals to Breck.

Breck has a lot of kids that can score. (If they play together) They are ready to play even if it's a bigger school. 2 goals will be easy for breck in this game

I just don't see a young team like Breck going 16 days without playing a game and then beating a top 5 team in the state. I'll take the Hounds 5-1.

You have not seen the Duluth East D Core. 2 goals by any team is impressive what did we give up to Centennial? 2 or 3?

First I stand corrected. Centennial is a very good team.
As for getting wacked by St Thomas, the score was 7-2 but it was the strangest 7-2 game you'll watch as Breck out shot them 40-20. They scored at least 4 goals on power plays including a 5 on 3 and a couple of others were deflections. It was just one of those days. The Stangs also were without Born and Borer most of the game.

You are right, East is the only real AA school on the schedule this year which seems a little lite now that you mention it, but they do play pretty much the cream of the A crop with STA, Marshall, Mahtomedi, TG, Lourdes, Orono and Blake twice.

Provided the 2 weeks off doesn't throw them for a loop, expect a good and close game.

MN Greatest I could be wrong, but how is Breck a young team? The core of this team is all Juniors and Seniors [like any other team in the state] and all of them are 2nd and 3rd year varsity players so I wouldn't call them young. More like underacheiving, and they don't have any good excuses.

On a lighter note Hounds by 3, never was a bandwagon fan but I like this squad.

agreed 15 out of 20 rostered skaters are juniors and seniors, and they only have a few newcomers this year, so the "young team" tag should not be used as a factor to determine whether they will win or lose

Just to throw it out there, every other team in the Silver Cup is a quality AA team, so regardless of the outcome of this game, Breck has at least two more games against quality AA teams...

6-1 Hounds. Russell continues to fight it.

Ok Lee, now i know this comes up every single year, and it really isnt relevent to this topic, but why the hell is East going down to the cities to play a single A private school when Marshall is sitting 2 miles away??? The classic excuses aren't registering in my brain as something that would explain why.
And relevent to this topic, i will take the Hounds 5-2

Last time I checked we don't go down there to play A teams. This is the Schwans Cup it's just how the draw shook out.
