Just wondering if anyone just watched the 1st period of the Canada vs. USA game on NHL Network?

US jumps out to a 3 to 0 lead in the first 10 minutes while Canada came back to tie it by the end of the period.

Very high intensity with Canada being the host country.

Can anyone who watched it tell me why the Canadian player who cross-checked one of the US players from behind only gets 2 minutes?
Or why another Canadian player can sucker punch a US player after a Canada goal and have no penalties result of it?

I've watched every televised game of this tournament and have never seen such a skilled team as Canada become such HACKS just because they fell behind after being severely outplayed early. Yes i know the refs are not canadian but the home cooking they are serving up is unbelievable!

Its Canada....They are Cheapshot artists...They are leading 5-4 late in the 2nd...The US is getting Jobbed by the Referee's in this one.

Yea no kidding. The US is getting cheated out of this game. Did you see Hoeffel got a 2 and a 10 for his hit? Which wasn't nearly as bad as the ones Canada dished out

Not only was Canada cheating, and most likely sucking the refs appendages, they were intentionally trying to injure USA players. Classless and ridiculous. Even the announcers admitted Canada was being favored.

In an attempt to intimidate the US players... the referees fell victim to the crowd of Canada. How scared were those (Slovakian?) refs to call it as even as they could. They obviously were trying to make sure they were calling everything the right way... but it got a little out of hand as they were assessing weak penalties to the US. If not played in Canada... the US wins this tourny. The home advantage is huge for them.

We'll have the chance to return the Home crowd advantage next year don't we? It's in Grand Forks again next year or the year after.

I watched this on ESPN-Asia. They have only been showing the Canadian games. The announcer (Canadian) said that the two refs were Finn and Russian. You could hear the US coach Ron Ralston telling the Finn ref that he was being intimidated by the crowd.

For me the game was fairly well refed following that horrible first period mashup after the US went up 3-0. The Canadian "player" (Della Rover -sic, #15) was the typical goon-on-skates that Canada seems to produce along with an occasional Gretzsky and Tavares. Della Rover hit US players several times in the back, after the whistle and long after the puck had been released. Finally, after another bad cross-check from behind, he got a 2- and 10-minute assessed. After he went, the game settled down and was more interesting to watch.

If I want to see goons taking cheap shots, I'll watch WWE, thank you. (I don't, BTW.)

Whatever, let Canada have their World Junior title for the fifth year in a row. Who gives a rip? We want to see our players stay in high school and then play college after that. In the end, we end up with educated players and ex-players who can benefit society. What does an uneducated goon-on-skates do after his "career"? "Will that be regular gas or Supreme, Ma'am?"

On a Minnesota high school hockey note, I see where Jordan Schroeder played in the game. Were there any other Minnesotans in the squad? I ask because I did not recognise any other name.

I'd say the 6 Minnesotans is pretty impressive and 3 gophers is the most of any college team. And one former gopher too

Prior Lake has a freshman, Kyle Krueger, who is putting up the points this season. In 12 games, he has 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists). It will be interesting to watch and see if he goes the junior hockey route or stays in high school.
