WBL vs Stillwater

Who will win Saturday night at Aldrich? The Ponies are 5-3-1, having just taken the consolation prize at the Schwan's Cup Bronze. The Bears are 6-5-1, beating Centennial, then tying Holy Angels in regulation, only to come up short against Minnetonka in the Schwan's Gold Division. My guess is that if the Bears play well, as they did against Centennial and Holy Angels, they'll take this one. If they play poorly, as they did against Minnetonka, Stillwater may win.

MedleyWR has this one pegged. WBL has to be the heavy fave playing at home and making a solid showing in Gold Division. Stillwater still trying to find the game they brought vs BSM second gm of season. If Ponies find it, and bring it to Aldrich, it could be a very good game with a possible 3-2 or 4-3 squeaker in their favor.

Let me just say this. Housley hasn't won a big game since he came to Stillwater, so what in the world would give anyone reason to believe this game would be any different? I call it the "Wooger Syndrome" Woog-Housley-Welch (Hastings) all connected to SSP and None has ever won a big game in their life. Welch has already destroyed the program down in Hastings and Housley is well on his way. At least "Dougie" had the smarts to get out while the gettin' was good. Housley and Welch will stay as long as they darn well please, cause neither AD at either school has the seeds to give em the boot..It'll be walk in the park for the Bear's.

Interesting matchup; both teams have been pretty erratic this year, but WBL should have the talent to pull this one off. You'd think.

No he wasn't fired.

Woog left South St. Paul to become the head coach at the University of Minnesota in the 1985-86 season.

Basically, it depends a lot on which White Bear team shows up for the game. The inconsistent team, or the hard skating team.

Over the last 10 meetings between these teams (including sections) White Bear has won 7 of them including one in O.T. Stillwater also had an O.T. victory.

The Bears should win, but, again it depends which one of their teams decides to show up.

Someone I knew you'd find a way to work Russ Welch into this thread. Attaboy.

Funny you say that, because if i'm not mistaken, Stillwater beat WBL in overtime last year.

Meaningless game with player disipline issues if i remember.. Come talk to me when it means something. The WB kids year in and year out come to play and are better coached. Housley proves it every year. He can't get his kids to play when it matters. That's why until he's gone, and they find someone who know's how to "relate" to and "teach" the kids Stillwater fans won't ever have to worry about who their 1st round opponent may be at the State Tournament. It will always be "Wait'll next year" He coaches like he announces.. Lathargic.

You're not mistaken. Stillwater did beat White Bear 5-4 in O.T. last year.

Wow, I've heard of axes to grind, but ol' ALSECORD takes it to a whole new level . Let the lads play the game and let's see where the chips fall. From what we've seen this season either team is capable of upsetting a solid team, and/or losing one to a mediocre team. Both teams usually play hard and make this a very good rivalry. As Mike Tice would say, "Enjoy the game."

66 posts and all bashing Woog, Welch or Housley. We get it you don't like them very much, How many years ago did they hase you anyways AL? Looks like they would both have to go unbeaten for you to shut-up. It might have been a meaningless game for you AL but it meant something to the Seniors from Stillwater that never beat WBL until that game.

Oh yeah 1-0 Stillwater start of the 3rd.

update
1 - 1 mid 3rd.

I'm not sure who you think we were missing, but I'm 99.9% sure all our guys were out there. Gjerde and Wolter both played, and i'm pretty sure gjerde played in the Minnetonka game too. We weren't missing anyone, we just played like PLEASE BAN ME.
