Upset Special

The Pirates are back on track and will upset the Rams Friday in C-Town 3-2 in OT. (Bullet from Wangen on the point) The Rams sunk the wounded Pirates in their last meeting but the ladies are now back at full strength and TP has shored up the D. Look for the center ice trap by the Pirates to slow down the speedy Rams. This will be a nice win for the Pirates however I still see a Warroad/Roseau section final.

Love,

Mom

After that 1-0 OT win over TRF I'm sure the Pirates are flying high. I know you'll say the game wasn't that close and the TRF goalie played great (which she did) Crookston still didn't bury their chances. Roseau will. 5-1 Rams 8)

Brilliant deduction State Champ, were you at the game? The way I look at it the Pirates got that one out of their system and will be ready for the Rams. Go Pirates :!:

Mom

If you say so Mom. Good luck to both teams and we'll see what happens.

Once again, just more proof that some of the best high school girls hockey comes out of the NORTH!! Section 8a is really heating up with Crookston, Roseau and Warroad all playing great hockey right now. I would have to say that Erika Wheelhouse put a big stop on any victory plans that Roseau had tonite. Great hockey game :)

I thought I was going to cook up some venison tonight but I guess I am eating my words. Congrats to Crookston.

Bemidji outshot them 30-15. I have a feeling these two teams will meet again probably around the middle of February  . I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out differently. 8)

Mind if I ask what state champ team you played for?

I coached one, in another state.

If so, one will have have beaten North Wright County....an unlikely task!

Unlikely, no. NWC has an impressive record. Strength of their schedule is what I question. Then again I question why metro teams are even in section 8, but that is not for me to decide. I know, not enough big schools in the North to fill the whole section.
And they wouldn't have had to, they could meet in the Semi's.
I will see what NWC has on the 24th. I may change my mind, I may not. What the h*** I have been wrong before. I think, but I may be mistaken. 8)

Elk River Section 8 Games

ER 6 Moorehead 1
ER 6 St Cloud Tech 1
ER 4 Bemidji 1

Elk River plays in probably toughest conference in state form
top to bottom

Their last game against Centenial they should have won but ended in tie. Against Blaine they lost 2-1 but really had the better chances. Should have won.

Looking at the Bemidji schedule. Elk River probably would be 14-2.

My home team is not Elk River. My involvement is with another team in this conference.

I really think our conference (Northwest Suburban) from Top to Bottom has the most depth.

We played them the second time through in the conference. There goaltending has improved greatly. Their forward are relentless and speedy.

As John McEnroe says "YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS!!!" NW Sub has 3 decent teams and none that are considered a top team IMO. After those three (Cent., MG, Blaine) there are 6 teams that are OK but don't put fear in anyone and maybe that's why they occasionally get a good win (overlooked?). I know the Classic Lake is very small but look at those teams up top (Hopkins, Minnetonka, Edina) all of which put fear in any opponent and then two OK teams. Neither conference has any terrible teams, but I can't agree with toughest in State top to bottom. How many teams are likely to make it to State? Your Conference has so much parity that it may be the toughest conference to win and if that is your point, I would agree. IMO the toughest conference would have to have multiple teams capable of going to, and winning, State Title.

Bemidji's conference isn't a joke either. Ok after about the top 5-6 teams it gets weak. The top half I think you will agree are some of the most respectable programs in the state. Not all of the teams play each other and some only play once. Bemidji adds in two games with Grand Rapids/Greenway, defending Class A state Champ Alexandria, as well as perennially ranked Hibbing and Cloquet.
I would love to see the Lumberjacks dump some of the weaker teams on their schedule. Elk River would not be 14-2 at this point if they were playing Bemidji's schedule. Bemidji had an off night in Elk River not an excuse a fact. I said Elk River got the job done that night and Bemidji didn't. The Jacks will just use it as fuel for the playoffs.

Boastful comment Sharkman, look at the Surbaban East and Classic Lake. NorthWest Suburban is far from the best I'd say! Maybe the most parity if thats what you are looking for, but deffinitly not the best.
