I'm guessing not Blake. They lost to SPA 3-0. SPA might be top 3. How about Johnson?

Dont you think you should give them more than one conference game before you decide?

They are 2-8. They did beat Como last night - so i suppose they are moving in the right direction :P I've seen them play 2 times - and they are not deap at all. If they end up in the top 3 in the Tri-Metro - then that conference is even weaker than advertised.

I'm afraid that I have to agree. While Breck has certainly had it's share of success in this conference the past decade, they are hands down the best team in a very weak conference this year and will only be stronger next year. They have only played 2 conference games but have won by a margin of 15-1. Provided they don't suffer any more injuries you will see more of the same in conference play.

It's to bad that Blake is struggling so much this year as they have been the only real conference competition in the past several years.

It's really to bad for all the conference teams that they have to play each other twice. I know that Breck was dissapointed that they had to drop several quality games against top A and AA programs like CDH, Stillwater, Superior and Benilde to make room for more lopsided games that nobody benefits in playing. It's not going to happen but it would be great at a minimum to see the Mustangs go independent if not AA.

My predition for the top 3 are

Breck and a very distant second/third would be SPA and Blake

Breck on top, but the rest of the conference is very balanced. Two and three could really be anybody. I'm guessing Blake at 2 and Providence at 3. It's still very early in the season though, too early to tell.

By "only real competition" are you refferring to Breck coming in 2nd place to Blake over the years?

Wally, Wally, Wally,

Good to hear from you my Java Juiced freind. Not sure what your referring to. Since 2000 the Mustangs have been the conference champions 7 out of nine years and have actually won both State Tourneys they went to vs. the 0 for State Bears.

I truly wish the Bears had a stronger squad this year to at least make the conference a little interesting. I honestly think it would be best if both schools moved out of the conference for hockey.

Goldy...give the rest of the story.... they have been co-conference champs 5 of those 7 times with Blake. They have only won it outright 4 times in those 8 years. Interestingly enough both years they won the state tournament they did not win the conference outright.

Flat,

I'll give you that, but my point to Wally was that while Blake has faired the best against the Mustangs it's not accurate to say that Blake has held the upper hand the past 10 years, and they certainly don't now or won't in the forseable future. It is highly unlikely that Blake will even be able to keep it within 2-3 goals with the Mustangs this year.

Blake should move out of the conference because they can no longer compete with SPA

Hey, cut them some slack. After all they just manhandled that powerhouse Como team! :P

I agree. The Mustangs are a completely dominant team in this conference this year. They should be able to get by the Saints this year and hopefully power over Spring Lake Park in the sectionals. Blake has no chance of beating them this year. On the 27th I say final score Breck 9 Blake 0.

It'll be hard for Breck to "power over Spring Lake Park in sectionals" considering they are in different sections...

I would guess SPA 2nd too from what I can tell from the scores. We'll see how far distant 2nd after tomorrow nights game. This will be a good one for those willing to venture out into the frozen tundra tomorrow night. Breck - the perennial power house, and SPA, who wants to be considered one of the Big Dogs. We'll know more after tomorrow night.

The Mustangs rolled 9-1 over a -thought to be- up and coming SPA squad. Breck outscores opponents 32-2 in first 4 games of conference play.

They'll have a test against Lourdes and Totino the next two games, after that it would be quite an upset if they drop one the rest of the way.

Congrats to Como for their first conference win. Pretty clearly Breck, Blake, and Johnson as the top three for now.
