Anyone see this game, a buddy said it was 3-3 midway through the third period with Richfield getting some good chances late.
I was going to attend but figured it would be a blowout.

St Thomas playing their back up goalie as well. They do it every year with the lower teams in their conference.

I saw the game, it was much closer than the score indicates; Some empty netters. I gotta give it to Richfield, they put up a good fight. I wouldn't want to play them come time for sections.

I could not attend this game, but take it from someone who has watched these two teams play a lot the last couple of years, I am not surprised. Richfield loves to play St. Thomas and beating them would be the best thing, besides beating AHA which they have done. STA is not as powerful as in the past, don't get me wrong, but not as good as in the past. Using an excuse that they played their back-up, please.

It's not an excuse at all; if it were, not sure what it would be an excuse for...
If you look at the St Thomas schedule over the last 4 years and the goalies that played in games, the #1 goalie played 80% of the games and the #2 goalie played in conference games against teams they should beat. I wasn't at the game either, I was simply stating something I noticed in stats.
Just like you have commented that AHA has played less games than their opponents all through the Schwan Cup and why; it's not an excuse, it's a valid reason for things happening how they did.

Redman if you saw the game you would know it was one empty netter not "some."

I consider 3-3 midway through the 3rd, if true, a near upset, yes.

Their backup goalie, may be one of the best goalies I've seen in a long time. This kid is going to be a great one.

Zamman is absolutely right. Richfield doesnt think to highly of St Thomas and they have some good reasons too. Just look at the scores of the two games the teams played last year 10-4 and 14-1. There were much worse teams that STA couldnt put up 14 against.
Its not just hockey either. This fall in football with the score 50-6 STA threw the ball with under a minute to play in the game for a TD in sections. I am connected to the Richfield football program and I know that this didnt go over too well. The STA's coaches excuse was "they had starters in on defense" when the truth was we had seniors in on defense, whether they were starters or not.

eagle4life9, if you had seniors in, wouldn't you want the other team to still try? I know if I were a senior playing in my last game I'd want everyone to try as hard as they could.
Hockeyguy_27, he is a good back up. But just like Zamman has commented about playing time for AHA, back ups also get less playing time.
Goalie

Altrichter was in the nets Saturday and had to stop a breakaway midway through the third period to keep the game tied at 3-3.
STA in all probability was still so exicited about the Hill victory and news, they over-looked a lesser team.

Altrichter was not in nets, McNeely played the whole game. Shots 40 to 20 in favor of St Thomas, not sure this was that close to an upset.

Who are you considering the backup, because I have seen both and McNeely seems to be better.

He doesnt mean to starter seniors. So theres obviously a reason why those seniors werent starting. When opponents try hard, the seniors will get smoked. Thats why you put your backups in when your up or down by that much. Its for pride.

Rossbury21, I am considering McNeely the backup, as three of his starts came against Richfield, Tartan and North. He played a period against Holy Angels then two against Centennial and gave up 4 goals. Altrichter has played in 9 games, against much better teams. McNeely is in no way a bad goalie and would probably start on many teams.
EHSHack, I completely understood what was said. And I'm asking why the seniors that were put in at the end of the game would want the opponent to put their back ups in. It's their last game of their high school career, I would think they'd hate to have their opponents put in back ups against them, doesn't do much for morale. Just my opinion.
We've also had plenty of threads in the past about running up the score and such. Similar scenario here and there seems to be a 50/50 split on opinions of what to do in those situations.
