What's wrong with CEC this year?

In an off year I'd expect CEC to still be competitive, but why have they played so poorly this season?

I think its a combination of a few things...
- No high-end talent, no one that can take over a game when the team is having an off night.
- No finishers. They have a very hard time scoring goals. No one on the team is in double-digits in point totals in fifteen games and there are individual players that have more goals than the entire Cloquet team.
- Inconsistent goaltending and defense. When one is on, the other is off.
This is the formula for a six-win season, which is at most what I think they will get. I hope I am wrong, because I hate to see programs struggle, especially any of the few AA northern teams that are left. It doesn't look good though for the rest of 09 for the Jacks.

This is a rather odd thing to watch as a Duluth East fan. On one side, it's a bit sad to see such a great rival go down the tubes. But honestly, I can't pretend that seeing each and every huge Cloquet loss don't bring me an odd sort of glee.
The thought that went through my mind, when looking at a roster prior to the East-CEC game back in December, was "who are these people?" The number of recognizable names from the past few years is incredibly low. Tollerud, Abrhamson, and Roy (who's been out hurt for a while) are the only ones I remember getting much playing time last year, and they weren't particularly great. Beyond that, there are a bunch of recognizable last names, but no one appears to have reached the level of their older brothers/whatever. It's a pretty young team, so there's some chance that they'll build from this; if nothing else, I'd say this is rock-bottom. But it may be a bit before the Jacks are a factor again in 7AA.

Its the old story with joint programs such as CEC. Cloquet usually gets the name and i guess since their the biggest they deserve it, however, its the one or two kids from Esko or Carlton that get this team along. They just dont have that this year.

What ever it is they are hurting as about as bad as Rapids is. That is to bad they both have good programs. I bet both teams will bounce back a few years down the road. Might even throw in an upset or two. Heck East backed down to Rapids tonight due to what they say cold weather!!!

I don't follow those two teams mentioned, but could it be the new transfer rules are behind it? I think they both have had a few high caliber players transfer in the past, just a thought so don't jump all over me.
I think it makes sense because it seems alot of top teams from a few years back are down in strength now, Moorhead a good example. I think the transfer rules are not affecting the metro teams as much because of proximity, meaning its easier for parents to get their transfered ninth grader to a new school that may not be very far away, or have a classmate that lives near-by ride share until the student is old enough to drive.
In out state Minnesota, there is a big transportation issue to deal with and the ability to drive to the new school is important and that typically doesn't happen until 11th grade.

HAHAHA! It appears SOMEONE is under the impression that the students canceled the game. No way, we wanted to play, cold or not.

That was the one reason i didn't want a cold day.

Cloquet has a very good pee-wee team.
They will be back in the mix in a few years.
Until then, they are average at best.
Small school, it happens.
But good kids.

Just great kids. Kids that attack other school's kids with baseball bats. Little angels even.

The same thought came into my head when I saw that...

Have you seen the caliber of baseball in that area... I wouldn't be too worried about them hitting anything with a baseball bat...

I wouldnt say they have disapeered. They have been one of the states top teams for the last four years prior to this season. They have had trouble getting through a very tough section. They have made the finals four years in a row. I dont see them making it five this year.

Lost 1-0. Hibbing scored with like 3:30 left in the game. Pretty good game

Disagree with the average at best. They should be pretty decent next year according to the history of this group of kids. And that's without any high powered transfers.

There's always bad apples at every school.

Well, they wont be getting much from bantams.
But I'll wiat until next year before final judgement.
