It's been said this week that the Park (Cottage Grove)/Woodbury/Eastridge school district #833 has began exploration into moving the three schools out of the Suburban East Conference after the 2009-10 Season, with potentially another small school such as Hastings, to merge with some of the Classic Suburban Teams to form a new closer-in-proximity conference. I guess with the Classic Lake folding up shop, all of the conferences could get shuffled up?? Any thoughts?? It was supposedly talked about at the SEC meetings early this week.

There have been lots of talks and speculation on all sorts of conference switching that could happen....

Robinsdale Cooper wants out of the Classic Lake which would give the possibility of Edina, Wayzata, Tonka and Hopkins to merge with the Lake who is also accepted Chanhassen when it opens next fall. That would give the Lake conference 16 teams which I believe they would switch into some sort of divisions. This is the best idea I beleive because it actually does work out fairly well with scheduling and what not.

Also another very real possibility I have heard is basically dismantling the Lake and spreading it all over. LN, LS, Rosemount, and a few other more southern schools would join with Farmington, PL, and a few others to make a Dakota Conference. the Bloomingtons would move probably to the Classic Suburban with Richfield but could possibly go with EP, Chaska, Chanhassen when they most likely would join Edina, Tonka, Hopkins, etc.

Bosically there are alot of things that could and might happen but they are all still rumors still until they actually come out with the new conference alignments.

Cooper hasn't been in the Classic Lake for Several years, but Armstrong is. As for Armstrong, it was the other four schools that voted to boot them from the conference, which effectively disbanded the Classic Lake beginning in 2010-11.

The Lake doesn't appear to want the other four teams. I believe some have applied and been rejected by the Lake.

I agree that there looks like there will be some wholesale changes coming in the next year or two, some of which may even affect some of the large outstate conferences such as the Big 9. Hutch has applied to teh Wright County conference and REd wing is also looking at leaving, which could be the first step in a possible breakup of the Missota. Elk River is rumored to be looking at the misnamed Mississipi 8 (which currently has nine teams). Having Chaska and Chanhassen with about 1400 students each in the same conference as Eden Prairie with 3000 students would be grossly unbalanced.

The possibilities are endless.

That would make things very interesting. What would happen with the rest of the SEC? MV, Roseville, WBL, and FLake could probably from another conference but Stillwater is much closer to Woodbury/ER/Park than those 4 but is probly way too big to join a smaller school conference, and then theres CDH, who I'm betting no one wants in their conference in football at least for the simple fact that they are just too good.

hockeydad- yeah Armstrong is what I meant (maybe I should stop posting at 3AM and I wont make stupid mistakes like that). But what I had heard was that it was Armstrong that wanted out because the Robinsdale school district wanted both its high schools in the same conference but who knows.

Then just yesterday it was announced that Armstrong was accepted into the Northwest Suburban Conference. The other four applied to the Lake Conference but were rejected. They must find a new conference because each conference must have at least five teams.

Some still think the above four teams will ultimately become part of a re-alligned Lake Conference, perhaps with North and South divisions, before it's all done.

i just heard a few minutes ago that Armstrong will be joining the NWSC

Geography lesson for ya... It would be split East/West if that happened

But it will be interesting to see how it all plays out because I don't think that the other 4 will be accepted into another conference and really the Lake makes the most sense to place them for the MSHSL if no one does take them besides the fact there would be so many teams in the conference. Guess we will wait and see...

There is going to be another meeting of the Suburban East Conference Athletic Directors on Tuesday, to figure out who wants to move on with the exploration of another conference with the District 833 schools.

Interesting move by the 833 schools. It was only 8 years ago that they were essentially kicked out of the St. Paul Suburban. SSP, Simley, Sibley, North & Tartan disbanded the conference for the purpose of getting rid of Woodbury, Park & Hastings, who were seen as too big & powerful. They added Mahtomedi & Richfield. They wanted Fridley to make 8. In the end they were forced to keep St. Thomas & add Hill-Murray. I suppose they would welcome the 3 833 schools back if they could get rid of HM & STA. Although the MSHSL would likely force the 2 private schools back on them. They are both in the same area as all of those schools.
