With less than 10 games left for most teams and the section being pretty tight who's going to take home section 5A?

If SCC wins Tuesday, then they are the top seed. Then the 2/3 will probably depend on the result/margin of victory in the Denfeld/Hermantown game. If Hermantown wins Tuesday, everything is probably up in the air.

I think it would be a major upset if Hermantown didn't win this section.
Cathedral and Denfeld have good squads, but Hermantown is a step ahead of them.

I would put SCC and Hermantown at the top with denfeld as the spoiler. IMO Hermantown is more talented, but they have some key players who are in their 1st year of varsity. SCC has great goalie and very solid defenders with Xcel experience

tonight we'll see who is more talented, the core of the SCC team is returning from last years trip to the X, they were more talented than the Hawks last year and they probably are this year as well.

1. Hermantown (Pending on 2nite) (Before 2nite I would call them #1 by their selves.)
2. SCC (Again pending on 2nite) (Hard to put as #2 with win over Warroad!)
3. Denfeld (Played SCC close in December, could be a spoiler to the top two come tourney time)
4. Sauk Rapids (Lost to the three ahead of them, it would be tough to upset top two)
5. Proctor (Skates a harder schedule than teams below, not quite in the top tier)
6. Moose Lake (Lots of wins against ok teams, beat all the teams below them)
7. Pine City (Playing better hockey now, 1-1 Tie vs Princeton, nice win over Two Harbors, close game with Sauk)
8. Mora (4 wins, 1-1 vs N.B. One being a blowout)
9. North Branch (3 wins, 1 over Mora, but got blown out by Mora also)

This is a three team race. Anyone from 4 on down just count them out. For some reason something tells me that Denfeld will be in the final. I see them upsetting whoever the 2 seed is depending on the upcoming game for number 1. Denfeld is a good squad and can definately play spoiler.

If Denfeld beats Hermantown on February 10th in Hermantown, is that enough to get them the #2 spot?

with the SCC win tonight that will lock up the number 1 seed for them. the 2 seed will depend on the hermantown and denfeld game. the 2 and 3 seed is not a huge deal. Hermantown and denfeld will play in the semis. if the hunters win the will beat SCC in the final. If the hawks win in the semis SCC is going to state.

Open mouth... Insert foot.
SCC defeated Hermantown 2-1 and in fairly dominant fashion, outshooting the Hawks 33-16, including 18-2 in the 2nd period.
I hereby retract my previous statement!

After tonights game I'm going with SCC (yeah I know big shock). But after a fairly even (maybe slight nod to Hermantown) first period SCC dominated. The score may have been close but SCC missed some very good opportunities that I would expect them to cash in. As of now if SCC doesn't win this section it would be an upset IMO.

Pine City could suprise the 3-4 seeded teams. This team could have done real well if Christian Isakson would have stayed.

If Denfeld keeps playing like they did against Superior. It will be a very short playoff run for the hunters !! Way to many penaltys !!! If they play like they did last night they have No chance agianst Hermantown or SCC.
They have to learn not to take the dumb penaltys. Right now it seems they have not learned that yet. Best of luck to them. But right now have to say its going to be either Hermantown or SCC going to state.

That would be great if they would get to play the three or four seed. They will get matched up with the two seed. Can't get ahead of Proctor or Moose Lake with losses to them in head to head.

After watching the SCC Hermantown game the other night, I think that SCC is the favorite. They dominated the second period and missed out on some good opportunities, and they also didn't have there 4th defenseman playing. And Hermantown doesnt have more talent than SCC.
