I'm starting this thread early so all you Mahtomedi/South St Paul, haters or lovers can get your words in. For almost the entire year I have read people bantering on about one team being overrated and another being underrated. Hopefully this game will solve that.
In the first meeting of the season SSP won, What do you all think will happen in the second game? My prediction:
South St. Paul will get the brooms out and take this one 4-3.

South St. Paul has beaten Mahtomedi in 5 straight
If Mahtomedi is ranked above SSP there is something wrong

Shots were 41-18? Wilcox must have kept ssp in this one. Anyone see the game?

Ya and the shots were not 41-18 I dont even think maht had 41 shots and i know ssp had way more than 18.the game was completley one sided south st paul worked them

your joking right?? mahtomedi outworked outplayed ssp the whole game. mahtomedi didn't come to play for 7 min in the second were ssp scored 3 times. and the shots were definitely right. your just mad your packers got outplayed.

The game was not one sided at all. The shots were correct and Mahtomedi outplayed SSP except for a few minutes in the second period.

No joke in my statement, and maht is not a team they are a bunch of individuals that base there play around one player, ben marshall. Who in my opinion is a little girl if i remember correctly him laying and crying on the ice last night for about 2 min for no apparent reason. So with that being said South St Paul indeed did out play maht in every aspect and shut down marshall takeing away mahts team and beating them 5-3

haha ya and you say you have a team? you would not be a team without wilcox.

ThatsWatsUp, the shots could not have been far off. Its not very possible a shot counter would miss more than 5 shots and even if they did wilcox once again kept ssp in a game they should have lost. I also dont understand how you can say mahtomedi's whole team is ben marshall when ssp's whole team is wilcox

All that matters is SSP swept Mahtomedi this year, debate over

this was a good game it wasnt one sided. Mahtomedi did have more shots but i think ssp lets teams shoot from the outside knowing that there goal tender wilcox will stop it. And even though mahtomedi had more shots i think ssp defenently had more quality chances.

I agree with ahemsky1006. I saw the game last night, and yes, mahtomedi did have more shots, but ssp had a lot more quality chances. ssp gives up shots from the perimeter that they know their goalie can stop. If you watch one of their games you will notice this, and that they block many shots from the scoring areas. Wilcox is the best goaltender I've seen, and he comes up with the saves he has to even if they should go in. As far as saying that he's their whole team, that's a little extreme ClassicHockey. Ssp in my mind is the better team hands down. They're a team of tough, skilled, hard working kids and I would not be surprised to see them in the Xcel come March.

In 2004 SSP had a very talented goalie who carried them to state as well. Do they have a great program for developing goalies or is this by chance?

This is totally by chance. Wilcox (their goalie now) is actually the cousin of the 2004 goalie (Stalock, now at UMD) so maybe it just runs in the family.

hshockeywatcher i dont know how you can say that al stalock carried that 04 team to state when there was mike pilot, nick stalock, and mark bernier on that team who all had 40 plus points
