Some of the better freshman goaltenders could still also be playing Bantam A's this year. I know Apple Valley has a very good tender who is a freshman but on Bantam A still.

I had initially included goalies in the best freshman thread, but gave up when I realised that they have to be considered apart from the forwards and defensemen.
Here are the four that I was tracking:
Michael Bitzer - Moorhead
Anders Franke - Elk River
Thomas Griffin – Minneapolis West
Joe Morris – New Prague
Of the four, Bitzer was a backup to the main starter, but the other three appeared to be their team's #1 goalie.

Trevor Zangs started his first varsity game tonight for Farmington, stopping 25 of 28 shots and picking up the win. He may not be top 5 but a great outing nonetheless.

Here is how the four stack up:
Games Played In/Total for Team, W-L-T
Michael Bitzer - Moorhead, 6/17, 5-0-0
Anders Franke - Elk River, 13/16, 6-7-0
Thomas Griffin – Minneapolis West, 11/16, 0-9-0
Joe Morris – New Prague, 12/16, 6-4-0
So, really only Franke, Griffin and Morris could be considered the starting goalie for their teams. Bitzer is #2.
Goals Against (Goals Against Average)
Michael Bitzer - Moorhead, GA=14 (GAA=2.30)
Anders Franke - Elk River, GA=33 (GAA=2.54)
Thomas Griffin – Minneapolis West, GA=77 (GAA=7.97)
Joe Morris – New Prague, GA=33 (GAA=2.94)
Finally, Saves (Save Average), Shutouts
Michael Bitzer - Moorhead, SV=126 (SV%=90.0), SO=1
Anders Franke - Elk River, SV=284 (SV%=89.6), SO=2
Thomas Griffin – Minneapolis West, SV= 223 (SV%=74.3), SO=0
Joe Morris – New Prague, SV=267 (SV%=89.0), SO=1
Anyone know of other freshmen who are the #1 goalie for their team?

Adding in the other two mentioned:
Sawyer Marshall – Mahtomedi, GP=4/17 (204 minutes), GA=10 (GAA=2.50), SV=101 (SV%=91.0), 3-1-0, SO=1
Brett Pierce – AHA, GP=2/16 (only 34 minutes), GA=1, SV=9

Lucas Weihe starts for Mankato east
Here you go:
Lucas Weihe - Mankato East, 8/14 (380.3 minutes) 2-6-0 (w-l-t), GA=39 (GAA=5.23), SV=281 (SV%=87.8 ), SO=0
Looks like the starter, as you say.

The Morris kid from New Prauge is going to be good, Coach Lonke knows how to bring goalies along. The Zangs' kid from Farmington is also coming into his own, the coaching staff their have brought him on slowly. I think his record is 2 and 1, with a 3.00 GA, and a Save % of 890. It's fun to watch these two goalies.

When was the last time a goalie from New Prague went anywhere for hockey?

Meaning, in your opinion, that he is not getting enough playing time with the high school squad? That makes sense.
But, of the frosh goalies, he has the best stats. If I was a high school coach, I would certainly want him on the bench as a backup. The other two goalies are a junior and a sophomore, so Bitzer may end up as a backup for another year.

The stats on goalies give you a picture, but not the full picture. I've listed the games these freshman goalies have played and using the PS2 rankings and averaged the competition. This gives you a better picture of the shots and level of play these kids are seeing. I could not find the teams that Bitzer(moorhead and Weihe(mankato) faced.

Bitzer is now the starting goalie for Moorhead and he goes by Chance, not Michael (don't know why). He has wins over Roseau 4-3ot, Warroad 5-4ot, Brainerd 2-1ot, Bemidji 7-1, and Buffalo 8-0. It's not that Logan Marks was playing bad, coaches just needed to make a change to shake off the 8 game losing streak. So far all Bitzer does is win.

So it sounds to me like him playing varsity (high school) hockey rather than bantams is working out for the high school's benefit. If he keeps this up, he could be the #1 for his entire sophomore, junior and senior years, provided that he doesn't continue with junior (Canadian-style) hockey.
A goalie named
Chance sounds like a challenge to opposing shooters, "C'mon, take a
chance!"

He also played against Hill Murray, Marks played the first couple of minutes and then Bitzer played the rest. The loss went to Marks.
