Different Section Ideas

Talking about blowouts and such have gotten me to think about the main places they occur; sections.
I used the info kept on minnhock and looked at the section games since 99. That's 9 years, which means 72 total section competitions per class.
In that time, in AA, there have been:
-4 finals match ups with a 5, 6, 7, or 8 seed
-37 1 vs 2 finals match ups
-1 #4 seeds win
-6 #3 seeds win
-6 #2 seeds win
-59 #1 seeds win
The numbers in Class A are a little more one sided:
-2 finals match ups with a 5, 6, 7, or 8 seed
-37 1 vs 2 finals match ups
-0 #4 seeds win
-6 #3 seeds win
-5 #2 seeds win
-61 #1 seeds win
Since 1999, Holy Angels' 1999 team has been the only team not a #3 seed or higher to make it to state. There are some first round upsets, but they have never turned into anything more than that. Why are we having these top teams crush the bottom teams? What does that prove?
My suggestions:
1. Extend the season one game and have a top 4 bracket and a consolation bracket. We could also play a 3rd place game.
2. Have the top 4 teams play a round robin to go to state, then the bottom teams do the same.
Yes, there would be some figuring out to do with sections with more than 8 teams, but all the games would be quality games (relatively speaking).
