This is a big game for section seeding purposes.
How good is South? Which team will bring their 'A' game?
Mayo usually struggles up in Lakevilke, but the new rink is not the big ice sheet which should help Mayo. Is it a given that South will out work Mayo?
How big of an issue will goaltending be?
I think the winner will have the inside track on the #1 seed.

I think that this game will eventually be the section final game in 1AA. These are the two best teams in that section in my opinion. Lakeville North and Rochester Century have a chance to upset them but i think the winner of this has the #1 seed locked up.

I think South wins, possibly by 3-4 goals. Mayo hasn't really beaten anyone of consequence and has been beaten by too many mediocre teams. The Lake is better than the Big Nine and while Mayo will be taking a step up South will be taking a step down.
As for the #1 seed, North beat South and Owatonna beat Mayo, both have a chance to avenge their earlier defeats but 4 teams are still in the running for the top spot.

I would love to see Mayo play their A game but they usually struggle in Lakeville, so I think South wins 5-3 (en)
It will depend on how Yaggy plays and if Mayo is smart enough to shoot the puck as goaltending is shaky for South.
The #1 seed is up for grabs but the winner will have the inside track.
Mayo did beat Roseville and the Spartans can score in bunches as they did against M. West and Winona.
Mayo's losses are not that bad: Champlin Park - a game they could've won, AV, Duluth East and Owatonna - the really ugly one. The class A teams are all ranked teams with a good shot at state. So 5 of the 7 losses are to teams that have been or are currently ranked.

After reading these posts. How can Mayo be the #1 seed? Ifthey beat South maybe then they should be first. But if they lose tonight vs South, then there is no way they should.
I'm sure that some of the coaches in Rochester will think that they are, you should go be strength of schedule, seeding games, overall records will probably come into play. It shouldn't because all the teams mentioned don't play the same teams. The Lake Conference is tough night in and night out.
North beat South and still another game to be played, Mayo beat North, and Mayo losing to Owatonna and still have to play them again. If South beats Mayo, then how can Mayo be the #1 seed? There is still a ways to go to figure this one out.

I'm taking the opposite side on this, Mayo comes out to play 5-3 (en) Mayo wins, Yaggy grabs the win with 30+ saves

mayo beat south 4-3 in overtime, i attended the game and i think that it was a very even game, mayo had little shots though and south had a lot, the overtime goal was kinda a garbage one but after seeing this win i see why mayo is seeded #1, and thinkin about sections if south made it to state (they have a 6-13 record as of tonight) they would get ripped on

Great win for Mayo, it means the winner of th Owatonna Mayo game should get the #1 seed. I could see a scenario where North gets it but I doubt that will happen. From what I've seen South is the best team but has some serious goaltending/defensive zone issues that is their Achilles heal.

Goldy you hit it right on the mark. I attended the mayo vs. Lakeville game last night and lakeville is certainly more talented. Lakeville's first line is phenomenal but they consentrate to much on scoring and not playing any defense. Lakeville made to many mistakes on the D which allowed 2 breakaway goals by Alexander. Lakeville's goalie is average at best as well. Yaggy for Mayo was outstanding he single handedly kept them in the game and gave Mayo the chance to win. Also I think Grosso now has a feel of what they have to do if they see them in sections. That would simply be contain Ben Simon. What a talented hockey player. He was involved in every score for Lakeville.

Out shot opponent, gave up breakaways, cant' blame the goaltender....Hindsight

If Mayo contains Ben Simon they are going to be skating around looking for a looooong time but if they go out and try to contain BILLY Simon then they will probably come away with a win if these teams were to play again.

Simon had 1 point on three gaols last night. Yaggy stopped 4 breakaways. The magnitude of the mistakes South makes were the difference, along with the play of Mayo's goalie.

Speaking of the magnitude of mistakes, how are you doing coach?

Coach? , not even close......just another game which south lost by the same formula. Make the other teams goalie look great, get caught defensively in the neutral zone and not enough goaltending to survive it. I'm not sure what the coach part is all about, I'm just a south fan who's seen most of their games. Mayo deserved to win, they took advantage of their chances , South did not.

Keep....Who comes up with the formula, who cuts seniors, who plays sophomores?

I have no idea what your talking about, some attempt at being clever I guess. What exactly are you hinting at? Would you like me to rip the coach? Whats with all the sarcasm for, did I somehow offend you? sorry if I did.

Keep, My post wasn't about you and you didn't offend me. I was simply attempting to suggest the blame of the formula that we both see, doesn't rest solely on the players. I'll try not to be so clever next time.
