This will be a thriller...we all know that. Should be an exciting matchup with 2 top end teams battling it out for a conference title. Not to mention that its on FSN, and should be a packed house.

What's the over/under on Gorg saying, "Anders Lee is the best forward in the state". I'll set the line at 10, that gives him 3 times a period to stay under.

Anytime these two teams play it is all out. The crowd will be jammed and the noise level will be high. These two teams apparently squared off in the Schwann's cup earlier in the season. The score was 4-2 Edina but did anybody see the game, the shots, etc... Should be a 2009 Classic game. I think it is on myfoxhockey.com as well.

I think they're a bit smitten with the tall and lanky Joe Harrington as well. Always enjoy the commentary almost as much as the game itself. Both good teams, but I don't think the score will be that close. Of course didn't Mtka beat Edina last year on Mtka home ice? One never knows for sure.

For those here who have watched Tonka alot....are they up or down from last years team?
Haven't had a chance to see them play this year.

Haven't had a chance to see them play this year.
My take on them:
-Started the year slowly but all losses were by close scores and to very good teams - Duluth East, Edina, EP, BSM and STA and I believe they held leads late against EP and STA.
-They are young with 2 F, 4 So and only 4 Sr. Of the Srs from what I gather only 2 of the 4 get significant playing time, although Nik Job has done a very good job as a backup G going 6-0.
-My guess is their inexperience played a factor early and that it would appear the D and G Kruger weren't playing as well as they did most of last year.
-I would wager they don't have the higher end talent to match EHS but they may have a bit more depth and better overall play in net.
-May be tough to get through sections (with Hopkins, Edina, BSM and Wayzata in 6AA) with all the youth but if Gardiner and Kruger both return they should be very strong next year.
Others may have a different view and would be fine being corrected on any errors.

Edina is in section 2, but regardless, section 6AA is a very tough section.
As for the game:
Edina 4
Minnetonka 2

Oops - I knew that. Replace Edina with EP and that was the list I was going for.

Edina's on a skid right now. This is a great opportunity for them to get back on track against a very good Minnetonka team. I see them pulling out a win in a close game and heading into sections on fire.
Edina 5 With an empty netter
Tonka 2

From looking at the stats on PS it looks like penalties and powerplays could be a factor. Minnetonka appears to have one of the worst powerplays and Edina appears to be very good...

I agree with all the points you made here. I definitely think they're down from last year though, they lost 9 seniors who all saw quality playing time and played key roles in their success last season. They've really outdone my expectations of them coming into the season, their younger players have stepped up a lot bigger than I expected. They're really only losing 2 quality seniors next season so I'd look for them to be a top contender next season.

I'll take that bet! I predict Gorg only says it 8 times.

I like the "mostly white out" that Tonka is sporting during the game

Tonka 2-0 after 1.
The Skippers are imposing their will right now. Very impressive period in all respects. Even Edina's first line is getting outplayed. The defensemen for the Hornets had some communication breakdowns, and Anders Lee has been very quiet.

4-1 Tonka after 2.
Minnetonka has looked great, aside from a blip at the end of the 2nd there with the soft goal. Their defense has been excellent, though. Edina, meanwhile, is playing the sloppiest game I have ever seen a Hornet team play. They showed a little jump at the end there, but I don't know if they can get 3 in on the Skippers in one period.

This Edina team looks completely different than the team that I saw earlier in the year. The tape to tape, tic tac toe passes just aren't there at all.

Needless to say, I'm very impressed by the Skippers tonight and I can't believe this is the same team I saw go 0-10 on the power play against the Hounds early in the season.
Let's see if they can hold on. I keep waiting for the Edina eruption.

It is hard to believe, but I dont think that eruption is going to happen tonight for the Hornets.

the cake eaters didnt look to hungry tonight! great win for Tonka.
I liked what gorg said about is edina making goalies look good or do they just run into hot goalies? I think that they get way to many shots from outside that add up in a hurry. They need to find away to get more pucks down in the slot area. so IMHO they make goalies look good most of the time.

Edina showed a little more life that period (the sloppiness went away), but by the point they'd figured things out, Kruger and the Tonka defense were completely locked in. That was probably one of the best defensive performances of the year.
Minnetonka is the hottest team in the state right now. Great win for them, and Edina is left searching for answers. Gut check time for the Hornets. Time is starting to wind down, and a Classic Lake championship looks very unlikely at the moment.
