Hopkins upset Tonka the 2nd time around, but it was at home. Can they pull off another upset on the road?

Saw the Tonka Hopkins game which was at home for Hopkins. That only thing that upset that game was the refs... 16 penalties. Tonka played over a period shorthanded including 4 of 6 minutes of OT. Hopkins cannot stay in a a game against a top 10 team even strength unless Fons stands on his head. If Fons stands on his head, the refs call lots of penalties (allowing Hopkins top line to stay on the ice for 30 mins or more), then they can beat anyone in their home rink otherwise no chance... My guess is Edina by at least 3.

I attended the Hopkins-Minnetonka game and thought Hopkins outplayed Minnetonka. I took to heart the comments made by Factsmatter1 and looked up the scoresheet on pointstreak.com to put some objectivity to the discussion. The only thing I agree with Factsmatter1 is the officiating was not real good, but was equally divided to both teams.

1st period - each team was on the pp for 4:00 minutes
2nd period - Minnetonka 2:00 minutes pp Hopkins 6:00 minutes pp
3rd period - each team was the pp for 3:24 minutes
OT period - Minnetonka 1:44 minutes pp Hopkins :52 seconds pp

Grand Total difference for the game was Hopkins played 3:08 minutes of pp over an above Minnetonka. The final goal was scored in a 4 on 4 situation. Total OT was 4:13 minutes with Minnetonka on pp for 40% of the time.

Now to the real question of this thread - Based on seeing Hopkins road record on pointstreak.com, they are not real good away from the Hopkins rink. Edina will win.

Nice analysis, I guess facts don't matter to "Factsmatter1"

I would love to see hopkins win but I dont think that many teams can beat Edina twice. Hopkins will give them a run, but there is only so much Fons can do.

Production from 5 different scorers and three lines. Good sign. This despite what must have been 15 edina penalties.

I thought it was a pretty well played game by both teams, actually. There were a bunch of penalties, but it was a natural course of the game batch of penalties, IMO.

God have mercy on section 6AA with a 5 seed like Hopkins, who could win it just as easily as EP, Tonka & BSM (I think Wayzata is just a notch below, just my opinion). They have what can carry them through sections: A top end line plus a quality goaltender. I do think the top line though takes too long of shifts. It cost them on Edina's 5th goal when Boyd had zero energy left.

Edina, I thought was very good. Their 2nd & 3rd lines were causing hell each & every shift. I thought one of the difference makers was Sit. He's such a good skater that he's absolutely relentless on the forecheck. Everson-Lee-Gaarder were their usual selves. I thought Max Everson played a really sound game. Not offensively, but very steady in the defensive zone.

The amount of penaltioes Edina took is concerning, especially because most of them weren't even because they were getting beat, it seems they weren't very disciplined. The only time Hopkins really got anything going was during the penalties and then they carried a little momentum.

Edina went with short shifts this game and I thought that made the difference, maybe instead of reorganizing lines, they just need to get their first line a little more rest and second line a little more playing time, they looked like they were playing at the same level when they destroyed Blaine.

Not trying to attack, but understand your opinion. How do you figure the 5 seed has a chance but the 4 doesnt? Might there be a reason the one team has a higher seed, like head to head competition?

Guess I'm just curious why you think that, personally, I think all 5 have a chance, and I also think that their seeds reflect how likely they are to win in this case.
