Coach Grosso of the Mayo Spartans got his 600th win tonight all with the Mayo Spartans. They defeated Albert Lea 5-2 and are a win on Tuesday a way from the Big 9 conference title.

First off, congrats to Grosso on his 600th win! For Mayo to win the conference, Mayo would have to win both games to win the big 9 conference. Tonights game against Albert Lea wasn't a conference game so AL is still 7-1, Mayo and Century are both still undefeated in the conference. Mayo is 7-0 along with Century.

Congrats Coach. It was cool to see so many 2nd generation Spartans were part of the 600th victory and that it came against coach Nystrom his old college linemate.

Very impressive, and that it came against another coach who just won 600 adds a nice touch.
I don't know much about either team, but based on recent results and taking into account a few more games this season, it looks like both have outside shots at Ikola's 619 next year.

Ikola has 616 wins.
Nystrom is just under 510 wins in the State of Hockey, as he spent 7 years coaching in ND.
Grosso will have a decent shot next year even though the Spartans graduated nearly everyone from this year's team. Of course I am hoping Grosso gets to at least 605 this year - that would mean a trip to St. Paul.

Wow, how old are these guys? If you went undefeated each season winning 25 games, that's still 24 seasons. And I'm guessing there were a few years they didn't go undefeated...

Not sure on Grosso's age, but he has been the only head coach Mayo has had. Since i believe 1960 when it opened.

Mayo opened in 1966.
Congrats Coach Grosso!

Congrats to coach Grosso and Coach Nystrom. How unique is it that these two achieve this at relatively the same time, have been linemates at the U and Ikola who they are chasing was Nystrom's neighbor growing up on the range. WOW!!!!!!!!. last night albert lea played mayo and before the game a picture was taken of both Grosso and Nystrom with both teams mixed in. This is what it is all about. Gotta love it.

Congrats again Coach Grosso!
Incredible success since you have never truly had your own program, unlike Ikoka, Saterdalen and others!!!
What would it take for you to coach another 12 years so my two boys might have the chance to play for you? Too bad they are a squirt and termite right now!
Everytime I attend Mass at St. John's I make sure to mention to my boys who you are and how you conduct yourself as a person.
