Richfield beats Hill-Murray 3-2

What a great victory for the Spartans who played a solid, opportunistic game, scoring two power-play goals to beat Hill-Murray. Many Richfield fans could not remember if that has ever happened before.

Spartans who I think deserve mention were No. 10 Dusty Peterson who was everywhere, defenseman No. 8 Graham Hanson who played an incredibly solid game and goalie Jack Dhein who made the big saves. Richfield was outshot, but Hill-Murray had trouble hitting the net with their shots and could not convert a 5-3 in the second period.

A great high school game in the old Richfield arena, and I'm sure many of those Spartans had an afternoon they will never forget. I've seen some good ones over the years and this one ranks near the top. The joy and enthusiasm from the Richfield side was infectious.

Congrats to Richfield for their first ever win over HM in conference play (I believe that is correct). They take a backseat to AHA in that area & it's nice for them to celebrate a big win in hockey.

Hill Murray appears to be on a "Good Will Tour" right now. They have made fans from Mahtomedi, Tartan, and Richfield celebrate enthusiastically recently. It's always a good feeling to bring down a giant, even when it's injured. I don't blame ya. Hill fans enjoyed beating Edina earlier when the hornets were without their big gun (Buhdish). I'm hoping there is still fight in this animal known as the Pioneers. Sometimes an injured animal gets angry when back into a corner & goes on a rampage & devastates everything in it's sight. Will see if this happens this year or if the wounds need to heal & the club comes back strong next year.

Either way, congrats to Richfield & good luck in sections.

As a loyal fan of AHA, I too have to agree. This one was exciting and fun to watch. They have been a team that gives it all they have, but do not get the breaks. Yesterday they played great, I was excited and my co-workers were excited. The one downfall would be that they had a dance last night and a lot of their students were not in attendance.
Nobody ever gives them a chance, they are a program that has been hit hard by lack of numbers and demographics that do not produce hockey players. The coaching staff does real good at getting the most out of their players. One of my fellow AHA fans has been at the rink when Richfield is practicing, and has said that they had a lot of speed and talent.

This win will help them, they play in a tough section but you never know.

Hey PPG not a huge win for Tartan when all Hill can muster up is one win in the last 4 contests against the Titans- always good to beat up on the pioneers but you are not a giant and the excuses need to stop. As I said "we are just talking about Hill Murray here". Congrats to Richfield though.
Tartan has been and currently is injured as well. In case you didn't notice Gierke is out with an injury and we whooped on you with Thayer in nets. And no, it's too late to recruit (steal) either of these talented goalies to replace Timmy. Neither would want to be on lowly Hill's non-disciplined, lucky-to-have-only-four-kids-kicked-off, no-show-student-section team anyway. Based on proximity to Tartan we don't need your kind lurking around anyway.
Other than that Good luck in sections.

I'm Lutheran but could use a confessional. I hear there's one across the tracks - but , from what I hear, you have to take a number.

And did I forget to use the [rant] - [/rant] again? sorry

Thor,

I went to MINNHOCK and checked the stats going back as far as your birth, for some reason I can't find TARTAN as EVER appearing in the state tournament.

Perhaps you should take a sip of "shut up"

With Richfield playing good hockey and Breck playing mediocre teams, including giving up two goals to Como Park, I wouldn't say anything is decided at this point. Breck is for sure the favorite, but Richfield showed us they can play good hockey.

Tartan has two appearances in school history, 2004 and 2005. In 2004 they lost their first two and in 2005 they beat Elk River and got 4th.

I'm starting to think Thor may have a "poster crush" on me since he comes on Hill Murray themed threads and writes so many personal messages to me. I should be flattered, given the Valentines spirit of things, but I'm really not your type...sorry.

We are completely different. You focus on the games Tartan has won against Hill the past two years & I focus on the many championships Hill has won during said time (Conference, Section, and State). Just curious, how many championships has Tartan won during this time period? I'll wait while you look it up......here let me help....zero, zip, nada! Tartan people bragged last March that they beat the State champions during the year...did MSHSL hand out a trophy for this? We may have been busy throwing more hardware into our fully stocked case at school to notice...feel free to stop by & check it out sometime.

As I see things, the score for both teams is 0-0. Neither team won a conference title this year (you see, we measure success with championships, not isolated wins against teams). We now enter sections and a quick look at our trophy case indicates we have done pretty well in this phase of things. Tartan is playing decent hockey (although, getting out shot almost 2-1 by our "lowly club" isn't a good thing). Tartan may actually garner the top seed this year...quite an accomplishment (no trophy though). It should be noted, that Tartan has never won a section title when playing in the same section as HM. Could history continue?? I certainly hope so. It will be interesting to see how Tartan handles being seeded 1 or 2. Hill knows exactly what it is like & the pressure that comes with it. We'll see how the Titans handle things beyond the first round. Time to walk the walk...everyone gunning for ya...dreaming of St. Paul, but yet everyone knows that upsets happen all the time...so close, yet, you are so used to hearing the "Season's Over" chant directed your way...hmmmmm.

As for taking shots at the kids who were dismissed from the team this year. I strongly suspect Tartan would not have handled things the same way HM did. I'm sure the kids would still be playing today if they played for Tartan. Just a little info for ya to ponder. Since that incident hit the papers and people read how HM handled things, parents began calling the school and requesting information about the school. The admissions office recieved a huge "spike" in admissions request and people indicated their interest was sparked on how the school handled this incident. You do things the right way & people want to be apart of such a program. Even in this dark time, a bright light shines through.

I'm sure you will wonder back onto this Hill Thread & get all giddy that "PPG" responded back...now relax...take a deep breath...and another one...and try to stay focussed. Gather your thoughts, and if you are gonna respond, please try to say something intelligent, ya know, something different.

How heart touching -what thor was saying is they are lucky only four were kicked off the team - pretend like the school is holier than though - will see after this weeks current events they follow the same rules. Once people know what happened they will not be calling for admissions.

We will se if people think things were done right. [/quote]

Thor,
You need to relax a bit here. The way you talk suggests that Tartan is a good hockey team? Lets keep in mind its been roughly 300 years since they have made it out of the section, and at least to my knowledge they have never won a state championship. I dont care if Hill loses to North and Moorhead this week, the bottom line is that they will be playing White Bear in the section Final and Tartan will be in the crowd at the coliseum watching..... Only dreaming of being that kind of program. As much as i Hate Hill Murray I still know for a fact that they have a better program than Tartan. Anyway who really cares because the Titans will be at home watching the State Tourney.

Tartan was in the tournament in 2004 and 2005 (4th place).

Yes, we will see if Hill has people calling for admissions after they hear what really happened. I will be smiling when the truth really comes out and Hill falls flat on their face. They teach integrity but don't practice it, so that is the bottom line. Everything will be out in the open within the next month.

Richfield is a solid team.. Teams tend to over look them and they end up paying for it

Mr. scoutbanana has been hinting for a month, and now hockeyfan2009, that some bombshell is about to be dropped about the dismissals. OK, who are they saying is the bad guy here? Bill Lechner & the HM administration? Are we to believe they decided to ruin their top ranked hockey team due to something nefarious on their part. Why would they do that ? They have been respectful and closed mouth about it. Who's going to drop the big bombshell ? Some anonymous internet billboard writer with third hand information passed through six teenagers ? Wow, I can't wait ! I'm sure it will be unbiased and completely accurate.
