What happens if a player goes in on a breakaway and the goalie pushes off the net and it goes off? The Albert Lea goalie last night kept pushing off the net when Mayo got close to a scoring chance and I was wondering what would happen if he did that on a breakaway.

Probably just a delay of game penalty.

Penalty shot.

I would guess that if the player is on a clean breakaway when it happens, a penalty shot would be called.

What if it happens again on the penalty shot???

I have seen Tonkas goalie do the same thing. This must be normal for goalies to try to pull off.

Are things like this ever an automatic goal?

I would imagine an automatic goal - same as if a player was tripped (or similar penalty) on his way to scoring on an empty netter.

ART. 5 . . . No player shall deliberately remove his helmet and/or face mask during play.
PENALTY: MINOR and Misconduct. If during a breakaway, or during the last two minutes of play or anytime during overtime, PENALTY SHOT and
Misconduct.

Off subject but about the helmet thing...... If they are under a certain age don't they have to wear a helmet on the bench???? I have seen many a goalie on the bench while play is going on with their helmets up or off.

ART. 8 . . . All players are required to wear helmets while in the players’ or penalty box.
PENALTY: MISCONDUCT.

Didn't sound like the one in question was "an obvious and imminent goal", so its just 2:00 for a DELAY ?

Whats the definition of BOARDING these days ? Isn't it just basically CHARGING that occurs against the boards ? Don't see it called very much any more. Are Refs just calling it as CHARGING (or checking from behind) ?

PENALTY: MINOR. If flagrant, MAJOR.
ART. 2 . . . If the check causes the player to crash headfirst into the boards, a MAJOR or GAME DISQUALIFICATION penalty must be assessed.

The boarding call is unique because it (initial contact) has to occur away from the boards, but the player has to end up "violently into the boards".
A good solid check could be a Boarding penalty.
As an official, I like the Boarding call only when it's truly a Boarding penalty (somewhat of a rare call). Otherwise, I'll use something else that applies to the infraction.

Thanx much. Like your attitude - calling something else if its not an obvious board - thats fair. Know a few that would call a major for a trip if they could.
