Someone from either Lakeville or Rochester

i hope it's not a team from Rochester, or anything south of the twin cities suburbs...they were blessed for far to long with a weak section...getting in to state by geographic default...if you can have roseau and tech in the same section, or cathedral and hermantown, why cant you have rochester and jefferson, edina, eden praire etc...

I agree that the section is weaker than EPs section but what would you expect the state to do? Those sections are just so deep and have such competetive schedules that you are blinded by the fact that section 1aa has legit teams. Two years ago Century took third in state, beating hill murray in the first round. I guess we will just have to see how this state tourney unfolds before you redicule a section for having weak teams in it.

Mayo's beaten both the Lakevilles this year, so it appears that they are a more worthy team than any of the "twin cities suburbs" in 1AA this year.

like I said this section is weak but if I was to pick one I would Probably pick Century again.
They won the Big 9 and they have a pretty good non-conference schedual and and they have beat some good teams such as Tartan and Duluth East

They did not win the big 9 outright. They are sharing the title with Albert Lea. Yes they did beat Duluth East but when they played them several of DE top guys did not play, including their starting goalie.

They also lost to JM and both Lakeville schools. They didn't even beat Mayo in 3 tries. They were 2-0-1 against Mayo.

This section is a joke. No one from this section should be allowed to participate in the state tournament.

I hope Mayo or Century make it I don't think the lakeville teams are any good this year. I think if either of those teams makes it they might actually have a chance of winning their quaterfinal

Both Lakeville teams are 7-17 or something like that. It's under .500 record. So I'm guessing a Mayo vs. Century round 4 for the Final. That will be a good game no doubt.

I'd take Lakeville North as I think Arentz is the best goalie in the section, or South as they have the most depth plus outplayed Mayo and Century pretty badly plus their schedules prepares them better than Mayo's did and Deters won't be officiating the game this time  .

Seedings will have a lot to do to determine who wins, Owatonna losing to Winona certainly didn't help Owatonna there's no question that Mayo will be the big winner if North and South have to play each other in the quarterfinals as I doubt they would be beat both ofthem again.

Lastly do really think Mayo would have much more than 7 winsplaying either Lakeville schools schedule or that either Lakeville school wouldn't have as many wins as mayo does if they played Mayo's schedule?

Umm... Mayo beat both Lakevilles. They have 7 wins in the Big 9. They have 18 overall. South and North aren't that great this year. If they played Mayos schedule they would have a worse record than they do now.

It's about the same. Lake only has one great team in Eden Prairie and is only about 2 or 3 teams deep. Same with the big 9.

As much as I like to stick up for the little guy, I gotta disagree with you there bud. Jefferson and Eden Prairie would win the Big 9, and Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville and both Lakeville teams COULD win the Big 9.

To answer the original question, Mayo will be going to St. Paul. They've beaten every section team they've played.

Name one team Mayo beat Lakeville North wouldn't. Both beat Century, both beat South. Both lost to Apple Valley both lost to Hibbing. South beat AV by the way. While Mayo was playing such powerhouses as JM, Farmington, Austin, East, Winona, Owatonna, Faribault, etc. the Lakeville schools played Eden Prairie, Jefferson, Eagan, Burnsville, etc. Mayo's best win was agianst #40 Roseville, South beat #21 Burnsville, #29 Eagan and lost by 1 to #2 Jefferson and #3 Eden Prairie.

Mayo played 1 game against teams in the top 30 and had running time put on them. South and North played 8 each. Mayo played 8 games against teams rated 80 or below, South and North have 3 and 2 respectively. By all means cheer for team but please don't go off on this BS about Lakeville would have less wins if they played Mayo's schedule, you just lose any aspect of objectivity or rationale.

Haha...I couldn't agree with you more. I know it sounds harsh, but it really frustrates me seeing teams playing in state that are just terrible. It's basically a first round bye for whatever lucky team draws them.

Yeah, the section isn't the toughest in the world, but there is nothing we can do about it. You never know when you'll get an upset, either.

For my prediction, I have to pick Mayo, just because they have a good first line, solid goaltending, and they have defeated the rest of the teams in the section. This is one of the closer sections, though, so I could see any of 5 teams going to St. Paul from 1AA.

Yes the Lake has a great team in Eden Prairie but what about Jefferson? It has 2 top 5 teams and how many does your big 9 have?

i hope a team from this section wins it all... tahtd be funny and itd be nice to have you people shut up about how weak it is

I don't understand how the 1AA team is basically an automatic bye when Century knocked off the "mighty pioneers" and then Burnsville to take home third place two years ago. I guarantee you if Hill makes it to St Paul this year and they draw the 1AA team they won't take them as lightly as they did Century.

That would be great. I think it would take more than one year for a team from this section to win it all for those people to shut up. They would say it was a fluke.
