For those of you making the trip to Fargo, please provide the rest of us with some updates on how the various teams look as the tournament progresses. There should be some good teams to watch.

Safe traveling... good luck... and have some fun -- in moderation, of course.

Why would you run it up like this?

no team should run up a score like that- Brutal Edina.

Edina-Wadena

This comes up a lot. Too often. Last year's Edina team was way better and I remember hearing stories that as much as it is embarrassing to run up the score, it looked even worse if they pulled the puck out of the zone. What can they do...let kids skate around them?

A team down here skates 4 when they are crushing someone. Big difference with Mites in Florida and Squirts at the biggest tournament all year.

Did Edina do the usual? Wings on D and vice versa. Two passes before a shot.

Wadena fields an A team? Wow.

Interested as always in hearing thoughts on how to avoid this.

Because it's all about winning at Edina! This is rediculous. These coaches should be reprimanded by the Edina board.

I have come 180 on this issue. Wadena should not have an A team playing in this tournament. heck, Edina white only lost 6-4 to Edina Green, and there are many who think they should not exist as an A team.

If the parents think they need to have an A team when they have B-C talent, then getting beat 21-0 is what happens.

This is the Fargo Tournaments fault and Wadena's fault. It really is a waste of Edina's time and hurts them for later games when the pace picks up.

Reprimanded for what? Winning? Running up the score? How about we have the kids throw sticks and scrimmage for the hour?

I doubt a reprimand is on the way.

360, or 180?
Maybe 540-my math is off today. 180 would be the correct number.

were you there? How do you know it could not have been 50-0?

I agree, a tournament of this calibre should be an "invite only". If you are going to send a team to this tournament, you better think about how good your team is and whether or not they will be able to compete with the top teams.

It's hard to fault Edina because I wasn't there and didn't see what happened. I would hope that they would switch their forwards to Defense and vice versa and try to get them to pass a few times before shooting....but you can only do so much without looking at Wadena and say "stop them"!! This IS a tournament and asking Edina to change their style and potentially create some bad habits might hurt them down the line also.

Um sportsmanship? There is no reason to run up score like this.

Were you there? Maybe Edina DID pull the reins in..maybe the score could have been 50-0.

I would like to hear from someone who was in attendance and can tell us what they saw.

What is more degrading scoring a bunch of goals, or playing keep away for half the game? i think there can be a case made for both sides and not being there to see the game i think it is a bad situation for both teams and how to deal with a disparity in talent. Poor goalies on both teams no fun at all...

Should Wadena have been in this tournament? Obviously not.
This is the fault of their parents/manager or whomever scheduled them to play here. But to humiliate the kids when they were put into this situation shouldn't be exceptable by anyones standards. Even Bernie has some ethics when in a one sided afair and will call of the dogs as it aproaches double digits with the Machine. Use it as a passing scrimmage, etc if encountered.

Which as someone else just said, can be considered MORE degrading to some teams. Other teams would prefer to go down fighting. IMO, this puts the coach of Edina in a tough spot, no matter what he does can be criticized. Poor sport for not respecting your opponent by taking skaters off the ice or not shooting the puck, or playing your game and watch the score run up.

Question: I understand this is a bracketed tournmanet, but is Total Goals Scored considered a tie-breaker for anything?

I still want to hear from someone who saw this game.

I have changed my position on this in my old age. The team that won is not at fault in any way. Wadena and the organizers deserve 100% of the blame. Fargo should not have invited Wadena and Wadena should not have accepted the invite. I do not think it is Edina's responsibilty to be nice and/or let their opponents feel a false sense of accomplishment. I say run it up and pad your stats.

My guess, Wadena parents want an "A" team and fought there association to have an "A" Team because some of there boys may have compeeted at some sort of AAA hockey in the summer. Not Every Association, or even every Level of some association deserve to go "A". Nothing wrong with B or C hockey. Play to your ability levels. Think about it. what would Edina's High School do to Wadena High School? same thing!! and at the high school level they would never play one another. so why attempt it at the youth level.

A story: (sorry) I ref'd a "B" bantam game which had 7 out of 8 teams were registered B-1 teams. the ne team (Not to mention) was B2. the game I ref'd this Coach was so upset that the other team was running up the score. In fcat the coach actually switched his lines around, D - F, told players 5 passes before shot etc.. and Coach was still upset. come to find out this B2 team told the tournament director they are a good B2 team and he wanted to puch his players. Which Team was Out of place, or in the wrong here?

Wadena has an "A" Team?? I didn't know they had enough kids in the program to feild a full team with out merging with another association.

this tournament ranks teams like an NCAA bracket...Edina went in #1 and Wadena was #48. Hence the BLOWOUT. Every year its the same up there. Nobody goes thats good and doesn't blowout their 1st 2 rounds of games.
The good games start round 3.

Then invite the Fire, both Edina Teams and Woodbury Teams. You now have a better tourney.
