Gotta go with the Grove on this one for three reasons.
1) MG defense is very solid allowing very few shots per game all year. In the last game WITH Pitlick, Centennial was kept to under 30 shots in their own house.
2) MG forwards have the Centennial goalie's number. MG almost had him in the first game and they lit him up in the second. Since that game he really hasn't been the same. Yesterday against NM really wasn't a confidence booster as he only saw 10 shots. Don't get me wrong. He's going to be a great goalie and he had some great games this year, but as a sophomore he's not quite there.
3) Not much help to their goalie, Centennial's defense isn't the strongest. With MG's speed and offensive depth from seniors to sophomore, it will be a lot for Centennial to handle.
IMHO, predicting a close and at times ugly game on the soft ice at the Fairgrounds, it will be
MG by 2 goals.

As a fan of Blaine, i hope this happens. But i have seen the firepower of the cougars and I just dont think they are gonna let this one get by them at the colliseum.

Does Maple Grove really get much scoring from anything but that first line against quality opponents? I keep hearing about all this depth....

The kitty kats will rake up the crimson, put them in a trash bag, and dispose of them at their local dump.

In MG's last win over Centennial:
2 goals 2nd line
1 goal 3rd line
2 goals 1st line
(in that order)
Your answer, YES.

Ah, well now I'm convinced....I was thinking more along the lines of the entire season as opposed to a single game.

Why hasn't this semi final been played yet.

my guess is that they didnt want such long gaps in between each round. Every other section has a whole week in between the semi finals and the championship whereas in 5AA there is only 3 days difference.

You feel that strongly IMHO?? Did you know that Cents goalie is playing with a injury suffered before the Blaine game I do believe. He is a solid goaltender. On the flip side, what are the big games that the Crimson's goalie has played in? BIG GAMES, not district playoffs as a PeeWee, oh thats right, Cents goalie was in the last three; THREEE state Bantam A Championship games (his first year at PeeWee age).
Cents should win and be just fine. Thanks for your analysis but I have to say IMHO that you not seeing playoff hockey clearly.
Great to have you onboard now.

Pitlick has a big game and the cougars advance to play the bengals.

Maple Grove-2

This one could very well come down to the goalies. MG's best goalie probably won't start. You can't think the MG defense will always stop the shots on goal like they have in some of the other match ups.

Centennial is just too good. They let their guard down once against MG in the regular season, but didn't that happen last year, too?

This will be a great game, I'm thinking OT possibilities.
But in the end I think Maple Grove pulls it off!

What's the injury? It can't be that bad if he hasn't missed a game. I'm not saying he's not a great goalie and he's played in some huge
Youth Hockey games. The difference is now he's playing against big boys. The other thing is, as Blaine would surely tell you, Centennial's defense ain't the greatest. This was obvious the first time they squared off against MG this season in a tight 2-1 win for the Cougars. For Centennial to win Tuesday they need a goalie that is 100% physically and mentally. For whatever reason, injury not withstanding, that is not currently the case.
Let me say it again, he's a great goalie and will likely play after high school. Unfortunately, unless his defense steps it up 2-3 notches to help him through this, advantage Maple Grove in the quarter finals.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure you'll let me know on Wednesday. Win, lose, or draw it should be a good one.
