State Championship Section 2AA Jefferson vs Edina

What a sad site to see the top two teams in the State of Minnesota playing in a section championship instead the state tourney.
What can the Minnesota state high school league do to get the best teams in the state tourney? I know it's cute to get some weak teams in the tourney but do they really deserve to play if they're not good enough?
Edina 5 - Jefferson 3
The jags are going to get stung by the hornets.

Why is it sad? Its like saying that if the Twins and the Red Sox both have amazing seasons we should just say screw the NL and let them play in the WS. Its why you play the game.

Get over it. It's like you have 2 undefeated by far best teams in the state going at it. Which you don't. I believe Edina has proven they can lose to what at least 4 teams???? Tired of it...if Edina loses they didn't do enough this yr to play in the state tourney.

A sad sight? (Homonym correction)
Hardly. This is what makes Minnesota HS hockey so great. If it didn't hurt this much to lose it wouldn't mean as much when you win.
Good luck to both teams. The kids will never forget this night at Mariucci. May the best team win.

This is what the playoffs is about. Seeing he best teams play, although I would rather have had AHA in there. I am going and will hopefully see two great games. On paper they are great games. I am picking Edina and Tonka.

The same thing happened in 2005 when Centennial, and WBL met in the section championship. They were #1 and 2 in the state, but ended up not winning the state championship.
Sorry to get off topic. When Edina is playing their best hockey, no one can beat them. It seems like they can just flip the switch on when they need to, and just dominate. They can't afford to come out flat though, because it's going to come down to who's strength is better. Edina's offense, or Jefferson's suffocating defense? Not to take anything away from Jefferson's offense, because Herbert and the gang can score goals too. I just think Edina's leadership, in a tight game, will get them the victory in this one. It may take overtime to do it, but that's the team I have to go with in this one.
Edina- 3
Jefferson- 2 OT

Perfectly put.
But anyways I think an even better match-up would be, if E.P. makes it to State, E.P. VS Jefferson/Edina in State. Think about that atmosphere. Jefferson and E.P. split the series so it would be a grudge match and Edina beat them twice so E.P. would get a final chance to prove that they can win against Edina. That's my dream State Tournament game this year.

that would be a great state championship game and i think right now ep vs edina is looking like the most likely championship game to me

Yeah I would love that match-up but anything can happen in State. It would be a great game though.

Sorry to disagree but these are the two best teams in the State, period. While anything can happen, whoever wins this game will be the favorite to win it all!

Edina's a monster lying dormant. I could hear that during the two short-handed goals against AHA. Whether or not they come out more often is obviously up to them.

I think this will be a true test to see how good O'Connor is. I think the Jags will pull through on this one though. Jefferson's 1st line defense will match up pretty well with Edina's 1st line offense. This will be a game to remember for long time...
2-1 OT Jags

This game will determine who will be the favorite in the State Tournament. Both Jefferson and Edina are solid team within the top 3 all season. This will be the game to watch. I would give Edina the edge but its too close to call i would like to see Jefferson back at the tournament. It will be up and down game. Both teams will leave it all on the ice. Jefferson 3 to 2 OT

Perhaps, but not without question.
Jefferson's SOS is still a question mark and Edina can be had if their top line goes quiet. Yeah, they deserve to be ranked at or near the top, but I think EP, Minnetonka and Duluth East can skate with either one of them.
