Besides the flood waters there is another big hockey story shaping up in Moorhead-Fargo area. Saw a group of senior men players on Wednesday night at the Super Rink and ran into another valley native at Shattuck yesterday. They report Fargo Moorhead will have 17 sheets of ice in the near future and may be lining up to make a run at getting a D1 Men's team there - maybe woman's team to follow?
So who up in that area can comment is the pipeline in youth & girlss hockey exploding with the new ice? I would think with those numbers if true they would be second to only the Twin Cities on sheets of ice in a metro area - way ahead of Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud and other Greater MN cities?

Sounds great...and sounds like they fully intend to start a D-I program for the women as well. More opportunity for more girls to play division I hockey...hopefully leading to chances for some more Minnesota kids to play D-I.
Women's D-I hockey could use a few more teams. The players are out there to fill a few more rosters at the very least. Hockey hotbeds like the CCHA (Michigan, Ohio etc.) and points west like CC & Denver which would be great spots to add teams...don't appear to have any such intentions, anytime soon...if ever. A real shame. I realize it can't happen with Denver and CC...with their men's programs being their only D-I sports...or so I've read. Not sure why since UND was able to have both men's / women's in division I.
Anyway, good news overall. Hope they can be successful in their quest to join the D-I hockey ranks in the near future.
