I believe the 97's had a previous commitment for Chicago this weekend and the Blades are required to field a team in Prospects so they put together another team. I thought I heard this a month or so ago.

In regards to the real 97's not being here, the Dad's up here said
the 97 Blades are really small and the head coach was worried his son
and others would get hurt.

The 97 Blades are in Chicago. They committed to a tournament there. It conflicted w/ the Prospect Event. The team opted to go to Chicago and make good on that commitment. Wow. You guys are a tough crowd. I'm just a mom that relayed what some dads told me regarding why the real 97's aren't in Toronto. I guess I won't do that again. Go Blades! (92's-2001's)

The 97 Blades were in Chicago and won the Cougars Classic. As I understand it the Prospects date changed and they had already confirmed to play in Chicago. The 97 Blades were in the championship game last year at Prospects. I'll post teams and scores when I get them all. How did the rest of the Blades teams do in Toronto

OK I give up - what the heck is the Cougar Classic? If I were on the 97 Blades I would want a little better explanation from the coaches/managers on why they would pass up the Prospects. Come on! It's the Prospects. Congrats on winning the Cougar Classic but it's not the Prospects.

I like the integrity shown by going to a lesser tourney because you gave your word, rather than jumping to something better when the date changed. It's nice to hear about a promise kept in summer hockey.

St. Louis Blues, Detroit Belle Tire, Madison Capitals, Chicago Young Americans, Lemieux Academy, Colorado Thunderbirds. I think it would be tough to turn this tournament down.

The field in Chicago was not as strong as the Prospects. Allot of "big" team names. But not their winter team rosters. You guys are tough on the Blades and Machine when they win. If the the Blades would have won in Toronto you would have said big deal two thirds of the St louis Blues team was in Chicago along with the top Detroit teams. Last year the Blades (including the 97s) had games with the margin of victory greater than 10 goals in Toronto and people said the tourny was weak. I dont get it.

Looks like noone has a winter roster playing in either tourney. Lots of good hockey players that show up at these top end tourneys. Couple of ?s 1. is a winter roster better? 2. Maybe to gain respect the machine and blades should put a winter team together to beat these teams... cmon people, give the minnesota teams their due.. We do have a bunch of great top end kids that can play at that level and WIN!!! all the bashing sounds like sour grapes. If the Blades or Machine stay home and blow through tourneys here people complain about that too! 97 Blades stayed home last year and played up at the 96 level and got to the Championship in a tourney. 97 blades replacement team went to prospects and lost but were competetive. The bottom line is there are politics involved in trying to get top end teams to play and sometimes you need to be creative to get to the competition. The talk about being afraid to play somewhere and getting hurt is laughable at best. MN hockey is producing some top end kids that need to be challenged and the people that are running these teams are trying to just that/.buttend wrote:The field in Chicago was not as strong as the Prospects. 96 Prospects was a great tourney. Regional Express was a deserving winner and a deep and talented team of players primarily from NY/Canada. Even thought the Blades didn't make the 8 team playoff bracket (they were 9th after seeding games), they competed well and the top 8 teams were all deserving quality teams. I had a chance to catch up with a couple of the Blades folks that I know there and as usual had good hockey conversation and am looking forward to hopefully seeing them this winter with their regular clubs.

Sad thing was that the only game the team lost (along with one tie), was what knocked them from #2 seed to #9 out of 20 teams.
