is that all Marshall has? i dont think three players constitutes a championship. Do they have any decent returners from last season?

HAWKey you are forgetting one key aspect the game is played with one puck.

Look for Hermantown and Breck to be a notch up on DM.

5 Little Falls
6 Hermantown
7 Thief River Falls
8 Mahtomedi
9 Alexandria

agreeing with HAWKEY...i would bet my money on duluth marshall..with players like judd peterson, matt morsette, patrick hurley, josh wentz, and ben wrazidlo they have a fast, nitty gritty team....hermantown will be a huge game for the toppers... i like the the hawks in a close overtime...

marshall is going to be nasty this year. they are 4 lines deep and are going to make a run at the title

So it looks like all of you Iron Ranger/North Woods guys are high on the Marshall and Hermantown boys. Well before you crown them the champs, you might want to think a bit about a couple of pretty good teams from down south like annual powerhouse St. Thomas Academy who will likely be back with another dominant team (don't expect another fluke upset from keeping them away from the Xcel 2 years in a row) as well as the defending State champ Breck Mustangs who will also be returning almost everyone from last years team.

granted the teams from the cities like breck and st. thomas will be strong but without the transfers that marshall is getting they would still be three lines deep and a contender for the 7a title. with the transfers, more power to them.

I would pull for Duluth Marshall to knock off St. Thomas hope that it is Hermantown instead. Noted your boys from Breck they are tough. Do not care to see St. Thomas hoist the trophy but that is just an opinion,

It would not be fare and accurate to say the STA loss in the sections finals was a "fluke". Mahtomedi played well in the championship game, STA certianally had thier chances, but they could not get anything by Woellers, whos play in net was outstanding and was the difference in the game.
Not the first time a team road a hot goalie into state and won't be the last.
I do agree with you that STA will have a very good team this year

No question Mahtomedi played a great game and Woellers was outstanding. And while many of us like to see STA lose, my point was that if they played each other 10 times, STA would probably win 7 lose 2 and tie one. I think it is safe to say that STA was the stronger team, but Mahtomedi outplayed them on that night.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say watch out for Sartell in Section 6A...

It should be Breck's to lose. STA will be an interesting test early in the year when they square off at the Breck Arena. Very well could be a preview of the State Chamionship game in March. Either way it will be highly unlikely if at least one of them aren't playing that Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.

dueling21, that would be a nice boost to the Sartel program to make it to state.

State is only 6 months away? Hmmm, I have an idea, lets all start making outrageous predictions before high school football has even played 2 games.

deacon, Seeing as ESPN talks NFL football year round. Habs fans talk Montreal Hockey year round. It kind of seems appropriate that folks will.....well talk hockey on a hockey forum at times, year round. Speculating on teams in the hunt for a title is just that speculation and bantor about teams is just part of the process in the quest for a title. Where is the football forum? The Cafe has been sort of quiet since the shady bunch left this forum.

A sleeper pick 4 state could be South St. Paul. They have one of the best goalies in the sate in junior Adam Wilcox and goaltending can steal you some wins. They played STA tough last year managing a 1-1 tie in the 1st matchup and the offense looks to improve as the top line has added a year of experience.
