State wide top 15

Ok. Karl and Dueling have done their typical excellent jobs with their pre-season ranking of A and AA. Anyone care to combine the two and rank the best teams state wide?

That was also done already on the breakdown, http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/page/show_ar ... 5188/37783hockeyrocks wrote:Ok. Karl and Dueling have done their typical excellent jobs with their pre-season ranking of A and AA. Anyone care to combine the two and rank the best teams state wide?
The problem with this (and any other poll on this site) is that people can only choose one team. What if someone thinks two or more Class A teams are in the Top Five overall? Your poll won't allow them to vote this way.hockeyrocks wrote:Ok. Karl and Dueling have done their typical excellent jobs with their pre-season ranking of A and AA. Agreed. The next couple of weeks will certainly be telling for STA as they face Breck, Tartan and Minnetonka all before Christmas. While it's going to be a bit more difficult to get a handle on Breck as they only have A schools before they get Stillwater in the Schwann's Cup, they are at least quality teams like STA, Mahtomedi , SC Cathedral and Redwing. It should however be noted that they have not lost to any AA schools in the summer tournament or preseason scrimmages, beating Andover, Blaine, Moorhead (twice), Champlin Park, CDH and tying Benilde.karl(east) wrote:When I made up my little SOS measurement, I gave a "5"--the most difficult rating of an opponent--to the top 8 teams in AA, plus Breck, STA, and (after a bit of hedging) Warroad. So by my very crude measure, they're all in the top 11, and I'd say Breck and STA threaten for spots in the top 5.
I also think this is somewhat unusual--Breck and STA are very strong for Class A teams this year.
Of course, this is nearly impossible to measure properly at this point. We'll get a better picture after a few matchups between top A and AA teams.
Gody23-Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously, when you make comments like this? You want to hang your hat on summer tournaments and preseason scrimmages?????Goldy23 wrote:It should however be noted that they have not lost to any AA schools in the summer tournament or preseason scrimmages, beating Andover, Blaine, Moorhead (twice), Champlin Park, CDH and tying Benilde.karl(east) wrote:When I made up my little SOS measurement, I gave a "5"--the most difficult rating of an opponent--to the top 8 teams in AA, plus Breck, STA, and (after a bit of hedging) Warroad. Your taking it a bit out of context as that was just part of what was posted. You missed the part where I agreed that it would be hard to say early on due to not playing any AA schools until the Schwann's Cup.High Flyer wrote:Gody23-Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously, when you make comments like this? Neither of them should be on there. EP will show Hermantown just how far out of the top five they really are when they play them on FSN on hockey day.WU wrote:how is hermantown and worroad thrown in here and not St. Cloud Cathedral? they havent lost to hermantown in two years and have beaten worroad...breck should easily be in the top 5 they have multiple D1 players and are an excellent team
EP is ranked #1 and Hermantown is ranked #13. How far out of the top five are you talking about?? Is 8 spots far enough?
salol44 wrote:Neither of them should be on there. EP will show Hermantown just how far out of the top five they really are when they play them on FSN on hockey day.
Don't stress about this too much Hermantown will give them a game you can count on that.
northwoods oldtimer wrote:EP is ranked #1 and Hermantown is ranked #13. Ummm there is time in between games. I dont think rest has anything to do with the breakdown. But still agree A cannot compete with AA's bestHockeyMN1 wrote:I think maybe top 15 for STA or Breck, but not top 5. A teams are just not as deep as AA teams and over the course of an entire season would get worn down and would be easy to defend against because they wouldn't have a strong attack for 1/2 to 2/3 of the game. I think top-tier A teams are a little overrated but that's just my .02, no need to rip me for this.
Don't forget to mention that when they played the spuds both teams were ranked first in their respective classes.HShockeywatcher wrote:Nothing more than "Warroad 2005" needs to be said. They went undefeated, won state and tied the AA runner up. Top 3 team all year.
Having less players to choose from will make you less deep in any sport. A few teams get more talent and are deeper. Plus, there are A sized teams who play AA. In 2005, the AA winner and runner up were opt ups.
First of all, EP shouldn't be compared to Hermantown's level. This is just simply a scrimmage game. EP will domiate this game. Sorry Hermantown. Good pub, but this is a high level metro school against a small school.
Lakeviewing wrote:EP is ranked #1 and Hermantown is ranked #13. How far out of the top five are you talking about??
