Looking at the Let's Play Hockey rankings....how many of these teams ranked for U12B have U12A teams as well?
Just curious

All of them except Tartan and Chisago. If I heard right, they both had a couple A-type players but let them waive out to other programs.

Tartan only had 18 players at the 12 level and let 3 players move to the 14 team to play.

It's my understanding that a couple of Tartan's 3 skaters who were moved up to 14UB weren't necessarily in the top 3 at 12U, although probably top 5-7 or so. (The 14UB team needed skaters and those 3 already had siblings on the 14 team so it made a lot of sense.) I guess my point is, Tartan 12UB still has several girls who could easily play 12UA. It would've been nice to see them compete at the 12UA level and see how they do. I'm sure they would be no worse than middle of the pack of the 12UA League 2. But I know the A/B decision isn't always easy for associations when you only have enough numbers to field one team per level...I just feel sorry for the goalie on this team, it looks like they've outscored their opponents 72-4 over their first 10 games - I can't imagine she sees much action except during practice!

It is always a tough decision to play A or B when you have just enough for 1 team. It would be interesting to see them play at the A level to see how competitive they would be.

Saw Edina Black this week after my boy's practice. They have 2 kids that should be skating A. Between the two, I saw them score 4 goals in about 4 minutes. One is a good stickhandler, the other is big and fast and has a big shot. Shows you how good Edina has it in girls, as these two kids could probably skate A elsewhere, and they have 3 12B teams that they have to split their good kids between.
Our EP team they played appeared to be well-coached and positioned well, but was smaller and slower.

Tartan could easily play at 12A, they have some bigger sized players that would've helped them. How did their 10UA team do last year? If I remember seeing they had a pretty decent team at their 10A level and I assume some of their better players from that team are now at 12U?
Last year Tartan played at 12UB as well and were 1 win away from State. IMO they're playing for the trophies now instead of developing those players to be ready for the next level(s)...I guesse that's why their HS program is still near the bottom of their Conference each year. I give NSP alot of credit, they could've easily said they will play 12B this year but they chose 12A and while their record may not reflect it, they will give you all you can handle and this will help ALL of their players develop as they play against stronger competition. Mahtomedi FINALLY decided to play at 12A this year, I immagine Tartan will eventually figure it out.

Cloquet doesn't. We have two Bs. Duluth doesn't either, although their 10s were A last year.

I'm not happy we don't have an A. I think we have 18 skaters between the two. I don't know if my daughter would have made it or not, but we have good group of firls that would compete with most of the As. One came in from duluth because they didn't go A and had a huge team. I think shes from the border lands and was there 10s top scorer last year. Duluths website said they have 15 skaters. Not enough for two and evidently too big for one for some. I can't believe they couldnt pull in another couple girls from there 10s. They had a good team last year.

Chisago has 5 or 6 including the 2 who went to Forest Lake. But they suffer from 12b state tournament fever.

Why did the two seventh graders play JV hockey? Seems like you would have had a real nice 12UA team if they would have stayed down IMO
