This is a good early season test for the Jackets as one of the top rated AA teams head to the Memorial Arena for an early season bout. Minnetonka pounded Marshall another 7A team earlier this season. I'm interested to see how the Jackets who've played very well up to this point match up against the top ranked Skippers. Alot of people will say blow out but I'm a big Iron Range homer and think that this game will be a little closer than people think. I believe Hibbing will put up a pretty good fight.

I'll predict Tonka by four.

Tonka should have no problem winning this one. 6-0

Will be a tough one for HC. Mtka has some depth, and their D? Really good. Plus, the Tonka goalie is very, very good - Jim Kruger.

If the Range teams can stay out of running time that will be a sign that things aren't as bad as I think they are.

No offense to the 'jackets, but this won't even be close.

Tonka should change their name they ain't the "Skippers" no more. Depth will be the deciding factor. 4 -2 over the Blue Jackets of Hibbing.

I think this is way too big of a deficit. I know how much talent Tonka has and how they'll be contending for a AA title but I think Hibbing might surprise some people by keeping it closer than you all think.
If Hibbing moves the puck like they know how and their goaltending is solid, it should be close. I think it'll be a great game!

The way the Skips have played vs. DM and Woodbury, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a higher goal differential

What happened to the updates from the Minnetonka - Hibbing game? Reports of 7-0 after one period and then.....nothing. Surely this game is over now.

It ended 8-0. Besides for about a 7 minute stretch in the first period Hibbing put up a fight only allowing one goal in the final two periods. Tonka was bigger,faster,stronger and it showed. You never like losing but I think Hibbing only giving up one goal in the final two periods has to be something to build off of. Anyways good game Tonka, no doubt you guys we'll be vying for a AA championship. Good luck the rest of the way.

Hibbing played pretty good for about the first 5 mins, but then they let in 6 in a row. Minnetonka dominated most of the game. Theyve got some pretty good guys and 4 of them r goin to play division 1, three of them are defensemen.

The boxscore doesn't look right. The sophmore (Michael) Prochno got four points and the senior (Andrew) got zero? Can anybody confirm that's correct?

Micheal had 2 goals and 2 assists in that game.

Hibbing looked good for a bit but looked overpowered. For the final two periods I imagine there were words on the bench and it looked obvious - make X amount of passes before taking a shot!

I agree with that statement as that obviously was the case, but again Hibbing only allowing 1 goal in the final two periods has to be somewhat of a moral victory even if Tonka was just working on passing and making some plays.

i don't see any victory out of that game,come on gopher they were outclassed in a big way,I know how a player feels after a game like that, i don't think Virginia will do much better, but we will see if they at least give them more than a.... Varsity vs JV contest

Holding Tonka to 1 goal after the first isn't that big of a deal. The 3rd period was running time.....

I love the dedication and passion of home fans and how they defend there teams but some of these posts are ridiculous to say the least. Hibbing didn't allow a goal in the last two periods due to Tonka not wanting to score any further out of courtesy that is the hard truth. I am not from the metro or Hibbing but was looking on this topic due to our town playing Hibbing in the furture. 7-0 in the first period is simple domination and it appears Hibbing was totally out of there league playing Tonka. Give credit to Tonka and there coach for not scoring another 10 goals in this game and making it embarrising for Hibbing. I don't think Hibbing has a bad team either but c'mon lets not for a minute think that Hibbing got it together and held them the last two periods. Sounds like Tonka is going to be a force this year.

1. Hockey is a numbers game. The more Athletes you have the better chance of winning.
2. Opportunity. Metro kids can skate year round and specialize in one sport.

I will agree with #1 to a point. The Privates have shown that Hockey is a $$$ game. Just look at HM, BSM, Breck, CDH and AHA. Not large numbers there! Just big bucks!

2. Disagree here. Are you saying kids from the North can't skate year round, or specialize in one sport. In my opinion, specializing in one sport is not the answer. Look at Alt, Budish, Lee, Hanowski to name a few that played multiple sports and excelled.

I'd call it...having a strong youth program, and kids staying together through High School.

Common sense tells you that if there are more teams wouldnt it be HARDER for metro kids to get ice time?

The 9 - 1 thrashing Minnetonka put on Woodbury should tell you that they are just that good. Hibbing was in trouble from the start. Just another uber superior team in the state much like Moorhead from the Lee, Vandevelde years. Recall that team was knocked off in the finals in St. Paul to the surprise of many. no need to make any logical analysis of the 7-0 loss it just is a fact of life that teams like this come around once in a while.
