Mayo has had a tougher schedule so far and that gives them the edge.

I will take Mayo over JM 4-2 . Mayo has actually been looking pretty good over the past 3 games. Roseville and Champlin were both better teams than Mayo. Mayo did hang with Champlin until the last 5 minutes of the game, it was 4-2 at the time and ended 6-2. I havent' watched JM play but by the looks of what I read they are struggling. They only team worthy of losing to was Holy Family in which they were beaten up pretty good. But regardless of wins and losses it will probably be a pretty good game due to the rivalry.

I will take JM over Mayo 2-1. King has a big game between the pipes and Yetzer scores twice.

Coming into the year everyone on the board would say JM. However, Mayo is much better than people think. JM has been losing to average to below average teams, whereas Mayo has played tougher teams and has a nice win over Red Wing.

I watched the Mayo/Red Wing game. I do think Mayo is better then I expected them to be. However, I don't think Red Wing is nearly as good as they were from last year, they lost a lot of talent. I still believe JM will win this game.

I have not yet seen JM play this season. Mayo Defense will be their strength. Should be a low scoring game. I would expect Van Galder will start in Goal for Mayo. Can Mayo find some offense?

Mayo's defense has not been the strong point this season thus far. The D is missing Powers who will need to jump start them because defensively Mayo has given up 16 goals for an average of just over 5 goals a game. Rookie19 asked "Can Mayo find some offense" actually Mayo is averaging just over 3 goals a game which isn't high but is somewhat respectable so thus far scoring isn't our main issue it's the defense. They simply need to play better defense.

Mayo will lose to John Marshall. JM will be able to avoid the seek and destroy strategy of Mayo. JM 3-Mayo 2

Boy JM is getting alot of credit here in regards to the big game tonight. JM has not done anthing thus far besides losing to some subpar teams. So far everybody elso has scored enough on King to win I don't know why Mayo won't, but who know's . This should be a good game tonight and I think whoever plays 3 full periods tonight will win the game. Penalties will go both ways as it will be chippy and it might come down to powerplay goals. I still think Mayo 4-2. 4th goal will be an empty netter.

The Purple Posse'....the ones who once wore Red and Black with pride and now send their kids to Lourdes and/or recruit players for Lourdes! DUH! Where have you been the past 8-10 years? They also have worked magic on making sure Mayo doesn't get any quality players and to a degree Century (i.e. the younger Samuelson at Lourdes instead of Century).

SE Nut.....your take is usually right on.....except for Samuelson...The Purple Posse has little to do with that....That lies on the shoulders of BF and the piss poor direction of the Public School system.

If the second part doesn't get better the Posse won't have to direct, steer or recruit!

shift as a freshman. Based on Lourdes start the bar was set pretty low.

The complete team effort that Scott Lecy was looking for came at exactly the right time.

Lecy's Rochester John Marshall boys hockey team put together its best game of the season on Thursday, picking up its first victory of the year, 5-3, over rival Rochester Mayo in a Big Nine Conference game at Graham Arena I.

Junior forward Zach Johnson's performance stood out among a number of good individual efforts. Johnson notched a hat trick -- including two goals on terrific shots on breakaways -- and either tied the score or gave JM the lead with each of his goals. His third goal was a put-back off a rebound from close range.

"He used his speed and got in on two breakaways and made top-drawer shots," Lecy said. "His third goal was a rebound on a scramble ... he was in there getting his nose dirty."

Matt Broman started the scoring, giving JM a 1-0 lead at the 8:06 mark of the first period with his first varsity goal. Mayo answered with goals by Marcus Nigbur and Alex Heroff to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.

Johnson struck twice in the second. Just 42 seconds into the period he scored a short-handed, unassisted goal to tie the score 2-2. He added his second of the period, also unassisted, at the 5:57 mark for a 3-2 Rockets lead.

Mayo's Spencer Lee scored just more than three minutes later to tie the score at 3-3.

"I thought JM played well and we did, too, until the end of the second and most of the third," Mayo coach Lorne Grosso said. "We worked hard but didn't do a lot of the fundamental things. We've worked hard every game, but we have to cut down on mistakes and play better as a team."

Johnson netted the game-winner at 4:55 of the third, and Eric Mackey added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds -- courtesy of a poised play by Zach Ewing with the puck along the boards. Lecy praised the play of his defensive corps, as well, led by juniors Tom Foley and Anthony Johnson, and including sophomores Broman and Ryan Lakin.

Bryan King made 18 saves in the victory for JM, while Alex VanGalder had 19 for Mayo.

JM (1-0-0 Big Nine, 1-4-0 overall) plays host to Century at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rec Center. Mayo (0-1-0, 1-3-0) plays host to Albert Lea at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Graham Arena.

How many players from Lourdes are not from Rochester?

Lets see here...how many Lourdes varsity players were actually in the catholic school system in grade school....6! I think its pretty obvious they rectuit

If a group ends up staying together, like these boys did at Lourdes, does this mean the school recruited, or did they just want to keep the Bantam team together in high school? Did the parents just plan it themselves? Is this a good argument for Bantam teams segregated by school instead of stacking?

If you conclude that Lourdes recruited...would you also conclude that Mayo recruited?
