I understand it's early, but there should be some good debate on this tournament. Seems to be a pretty solid tournament with at least 5 of the 8 teams consistently seen in the various rankings.

(Rankings based off of Karl's from 12/20)
OPENING GAMES:
#14 Elk River VS Maple Grove
#5 Jefferson VS #15 Moorhead

Centennial VS Woodbury
#10 Benilde VS #4 Wayzata

My prediction for semis:

#8 Elk River VS #2 Jefferson
#5 Benilde VS Centennial

I see a #2 Jefferson VS #5 Benilde Championship Game with a 6-4 win for the Jaguars. Don't be surprised when I'm 100% correct haha.

With the Cretin win over BSM I agree with you on Wayzata over BSM.

Where are these games being played at? St. Louis Park does not ring a bell. Is the arena called something else?

#8 Elk River VS Maple Grove
#2 Jefferson VS #13 Moorhead

Centennial VS Woodbury
#5 Benilde VS #9 Wayzata

My prediction for semis:
#8 Elk River VS #2 Jefferson
#9 Wayzata VS Centennial (taking a chance with Wayzata over benilde, but with Benilde's Daly breaking his leg, this could happen)

The St. Louis Park Rec Center is the home rink for both Benilde and St. Louis Park High Schools: http://www.rinkfinder.com/arenas/view_arena.asp?ID=148

Now this tournament looks a bit different with another week of games gone by. I'd say Wayzata is favorite.

I'd definitely like to see a Jefferson-Wayzata final.

I wouldn't doubt Wayzata either.

I agree Wayzata vs. Jefferson would be the most fun matchup, they do play the next week after the tourney in non-conference play. So maybe a little shakeup wouldn't be so bad.

Not that I don't want to see Wayzata in the 'ship or anything :D

Jefferson won a pretty chippy game against Moorhead. Neither team looked as impressive as I thought they'd be.

Semifinals

Maple Grove VS Jefferson
Centennial VS Benilde

Mooread Elk River Tie

The Moorhead Elk River game ended in a tie. 5-5, however for the purposes of the tourny, they went to a shootout.

Moorhead was 3 for 3 and the Elk's missed one of the attempts.

Sounded like a good game, too bad they played at noon on a Tuesday.

Jefferson beat Maple Grove 3-1 (EN) and Benilde and Centennial are currently playing. It was 1-0 after the 1st.

7-2 Final.

I was only half-watching the game, but Centennial was very impressive; they're a balanced team with no obvious weaknesses. If I stumbled into the arena knowing nothing about Centennial and you told me this team had lost to DE and Wayzata and been killed by Jefferson earlier this month, I wouldn't have believed it.

We'll get a very good idea of how much they've improved with the rematch against Jefferson tomorrow.

Benilde got into a little more penalty trouble than they should have, but the better team clearly won tonight. Benilde's lack of depth might have played a role, especially coming off a taxing game against Wayzata.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Jefferson VS Centennial

Predictions? The teams have met once before and Jefferson scored 9 on them. I'm thinking it's going to be closer than last time.

Definitely closer. Centennial is talented and seems to be getting it together as they play more games. I'll still take Jefferson. I thought they looked really impressive today against Maple Grove. It was a fast-paced back and forth game, but I thought that Jefferson moved the puck really well and had more and better chances than MG. Overall I thought both teams played very well. If Herbert stays out of the box he is a huge threat. He and Faust have been huge in the tournament thus far, so I'll take Jefferson in a 4-2 (EN) nailbiter. I still want to know what happened to Benilde. This year has been up and down for so many teams; the holiday tournaments really haven't cleared much up for me as far as rankings of teams other than Tonka being a clear #1.

Does anybody know what time Moorhead and Wayzata play on Wednesday? I can't seem to find anything about the start time.
