Do the undefeated Panthers have any chance of competing with a dominant Benilde team?

The Panthers have a lot to prove on Saturday. A lot of people have criticized them because they have played a weak schedule thus far, but after Saturday we'll see how tough this team is.
The Panthers play tough hockey at home, and I expect them to on Saturday. One of the keys for the Panthers will be matching the Red Knights speed. The Panthers haven't played a team yet that is as fast as Benilde. They also need to start fast. SLP has scored more goals in the 1st period, than any other period. Goaltending will also be a huge key in the game. Nelson plays tough in big games, and if he can get hot and get some bounces he will keep the Panthers in the game. Finally, Spring Lake Park will need to stay out of the box. I anticipate Benilde to have a very strong power play, and SLP can't afford to give up any powerplay goals.

It's time for the Panthers to step it up and show us all what they can do.

I saw SLP play East Ridge this season and was not impressed. While they did win, in the end, they trailed for a good portion of the game and spent a lot of time in the box. I pick Benilde by 3.

I like the defense and depth a little more for SLP and I also saw the Benilde - Tech game and wasn't too impressed.

We often have games were undefeated teams with no schedule meet up with mediocre teams and get crushed. Spring Lake Park is probably so hyped up for this game and Benilde is probably looking past it. Anything can happen.

Anyone seen BOTH of these teams play and can comment on what they think?

Seen both play. Benilde has much more depth for forwards but SLP's D are pretty solid and I have to give the goaltending to Benilde although Nelson is solid for SLP. It will be interesting to see how SLP responds after suffering their first loss. I will take Benilde by a couple in this one.

The loss to Irondale is only going to make the Panthers want this W even more. I think that we all knew that Spring Lake Park wouldn't go undefeated this season, and I think that the weakness of the first half of their schedule definitely caught up to them. The Irondale goalie brought a stellar effort to the rink and kept his team in the game long enough for them to take it in the 3rd period.

Despite this loss i'm still picking the Panthers to skate away with a win on Saturday, because, knowing the kids on that team like I do, they will respond right out of the chutes against Benilde and won't accept losing two in a row.

i can understand park wanting to take their anger out on benilde because of losing to a 2-9 irondale team, but i dont see it happening. obviously upsets happen(look at irondale) as much as id like to see it, i dont think its gonna happen. was at the irondale park game and talked to some of the parents that i know (im an old guy and its nice seeing some people i know) and they were talking about how irondale was horrible and it was gonna be another cake walk. i really dont think irondales goalie played stellar, all the shots were from the outside except for the ones park scored, and when they did shoot from the outside, no one was in front of the net. nothing against park though, thats how they can be, instead of playing at their caliber they lower it to the other teams level and make it a game, thats why i think the bsm game will be close but still a L for park.
5-3 bsm.

Final was

Benilde-8

SLP-4

Very ugly game both ways towards the end. The panthers came out with something to prove but came up short. Benildes powerplay looked solid and they scored 3 or 4 on the poweplay. Both teams got really chippy in the third and the it ended pretty ugly. Meyers played a very average game and Nelson played fairly well.

Wandered over from the Elk River/Blaine game next door. This game wasn't even close. What I saw in the 3rd was BSM wasn't even playing many of their 1st and 2nd line guys to prevent injury. Word was that SLP was chippy and once the game was out of hand it wasn't worth risking key players. Three SLP players got tossed while I watched....it was a circus and somewhat entertaining to watch (including a SLP kid spiking his helmet because he was mad at the ref....classy), but an embarassment to the game.

Next door was the real hockey game and it was a good one.

I definitely was embarassed to be a panther fan when I saw that. Some of the boys tried to play to the crowd and got thrown out for being too emotional. I saw Pauly lose it and I heard from one of the kids that he was threatening a player from SLP? Real classy on his part..

Was in the stands, heard the bsm coach from the stands. Was calling slp kids in the box very offensive language that is too much for this forum. I was shocked seeing an adult threatening high school kids. From my pout of view both teams were chippy, but bsm got all the good calls, than slp got mad and went over board. Slp came out well but penalties killed them in the end.
