Is he a two-way player? I have never seen him play so i am curious.

It was the same with Ben Hanowski! He had a soft schedule blah blah, made him more fun to watch because he was able to make more dekes, and it was more entertaining that way.

I never agreed that he should have really been able to be a leading scorer based on his teams schedule, but he sure had some dangles.

I haven't watched enough games to make fair judgment but he appears to be a multi dimensional player. Back checks nicely and tries to use his teammates the best he can. Schedule for DL gets a little bit thicker end of season and could shape up to be interesting in 6a.

What is with Hockey Hub anyway? They need to split out out A and AA scoring leaders. Their combined A and AA scoring leaders listing is totally irrelevant.

I think what most really want to see is splitting it between "good" and "uninteresting" programs, correct? Wouldn't want to have Benik or any Class A players souring the Class AA scoring leaders either.

Maybe what there should be is a scoring leaders list for the combined Classic Suburban, NWSC, Classic Lake and Lake and then one for the rest of the state...<please note sarcasm>

Right on Shakey... I find myself completely disregarding it and looking at the top scoring leaders in the top 20 teams... team by team... hope they can fix this... they have made some great improvements in other areas... right now it is apples and oranges... therefore meaningless.

I want to take back my earlier post. I went over stats...

9 points in a 15-2 win over Becker
Hat Tricks against Park Rapids and Fergus Falls
7 points in a second 15-1 win over Becker
2- 5 point games against Two Harbors and Silver Bay

This is a softer schedule than I had imagined, it bothers me that the top scorer list has players from St. Francis, Detroit Lakes, Park Rapids, Kittson and Delano.

They really need to do something about this, when your biggest chunks of points are from playing teams that can barley fill a varsity bench...

Ummm, yeah, I knew that...but you wouldn't know it to hear people talk about Benik's scoring exploits versus his schedule. I guess my point was overlooked in the semantics of sentence structure (Benik OR any Class A players versus Benik AND any Class A players). I just think there is more to the State of Hockey than the top players from the "power conferences." That was all...

It would be nice to have the option on Minnesota Hockey Hub to see the scoring leaders by conference, by position, or by grade.

They do do them by conference. You can sort forwards and D. Sorry they don't do it by grade.

No offense but I think the scales have tipped completely the other way on your site. I would be interested in seeing more balanced reporting by class. Take a gander at the MyFoxHockey.com Single Class Top 10 team rankings on The Hub - eight AA teams vs. two A teams. Conversely, the Single Class Top 10 scoring leaders have eight A players vs. two from AA and no Metro players from so called "power conferences". Let's face it, throwing them together does not do justice to AA players and those who are interested in following them.

I have played against Lane and he likes to float around the neutral zone when the puck is in his deffensive end. He is a very skilled offensive player, but doesn't like to work to hard in his d-zone. Also I've noticed he tends to shy away from any physical contact and prefers not to play in the corners.

I agree ...but I don't. Ben Hanowski played very few of the state's top teams, this isn't to say that he had a very soft schedule.
Tanner Lane, however, has it made in the shade. Why Detroit Lakes does not destroy the Mid-State conference annually forever is a mystery to me. Then they do nothing with their non-conference schedule, ( the mid-state has like 4 teams). I can get past scheduling Walker, its more of a good will type thing I'm sure, but come on DL is an established program, not some johnny come lately. Especially with the addition of their second rink in teh last decade I would've expected them to step up, but appearently they're satisfied playing hicks from North Dakota, has beens and never were's in Minnesota. I am sure he is a solid player with nice skills, but the stats in this case are deceptive.
And I am a guy who not only gives the benefit of the doubt, but usually defends these types.
Lately, a 20 win DL team is likely just as good as a .500 team in say the Marriucci conference.

No offense taken (it isn't my site, though, I'm only a lowly serf), but I think that's a misrepresentation of the true facts. You're talking only about the stats, which are nothing but raw numbers and don't involve any "reporting." The actual story count is probably pretty heavily in favor of the big Metro teams (although I'm not willing to actually take the time to count it out).

But I will agree that I'd prefer it also if the site allows you to do more breakdowns of the numbers. I'll see if I can't send that idea to the powers that be and how easy it may be to code by Class AA/A and by grade level. I've also encouraged them with a few other ideas that might be implemented eventually, as well.

First of all i am not related or from DL, but have seen this guy play numerous times at high school and selects, I see the biggest strength he has is in his transitional play, he has to have the most explosive first three strides in hockey for some time. As for those saying he is out in the nuetral zone, well he was a soph, but his play in the def end is getting much better,
For those who say he cant take a hit, well at 6'2" and a junior just think what lies ahead of him when he starts putting on some bulk, WOW, ,
He is not a selfish player and if he had some wings that could put the puck in the net, he would have alot more points
The last thing ive notice is that he has a very long reach, for those that remember Bobby Smith of North Stars, it is very similar and a great quick shot
So before everyone bashes the kid for growing up where his parents live in DL, get out and watch the kid, the college scouts are already

Thanks, whockeyguy...I saw him last year as a sophomore and he was impressive then, particularly when his age was factored in. I'm planning to get to DL this Saturday for their game against Park Rapids. Will be covering that one as a "Spotlight Game" on the Hub.

I live in DL and watch all the HS games. Tanner has talent, just doesn't seem like he knows what to do with it. He needs to work harder in his own end and needs to be consistent. He seems to disappear too often. He has a boatload of potential, but needs to step up the work habits. He has the talent to play D1, but it will depend on how hard he works.

Rams, I suggest you know what you're talking about before posting. If the kid has anything, it's work ethic.

Lane is a talented player, but if you get him frusterated he will take some bad penalties. He is a d1 talent, but i don't know if he has a d1 work ethic.

has he always played for DL?

Work ethic????? I wonder how many juniors in high school have this?
He has the talent to go farther if he desires, nobody questions this, why doesnt everyone just let the kid grow up and mature a bit,
